Biography

Reel Big Fish are a Southern Californian ska/punk band, who rode the third wave ska revival in the late 90s with their own brand of fun, party music. Their career has taken them full circle and after a detour to post punk, they came back with the smiles and energy of their early days.

Reel Big Fish started out as a three-piece covers band playing in and around the Huntington Beach area. Their… Read more in Amazon's Reel Big Fish Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything Doesn't Suck!, February 29, 2000

This review is from: Everything Sucks (Audio CD)
Espically this CD! Sure, its low quality and about half the songs are featured on other RBF albums("Turn the Radio Off", "Why Do They Rock So Hard?", and "Keep Your Recipt"). And if you've never heard of this skankin' band, this isn't exactly the best place to start. Only a die hard RBF fan like myself could truly enjoy this CD. The sound of the samples may discourage you from purchasing it, but believe me, any true a RBF fan would appreciate and love this awesome CD! I know you're gonna love the added sax solos and a different trombone player, but with that there is a down side. Scott(trumpet/vocals) was not in the band during the time RBF recorded this CD. And that would leave all the trumpet duties to my buddy Tavis. In conclusion I'd say this is truly a great addition to any lover of sarcastic ska and RBF!

3.0 out of 5 stars The Early Years, and it shows., September 2, 2007
This review is from: Everything Sucks (Audio CD)
Reel Big Fish is the best band ever, and they should rule the world. That being said, this cd is not their best. I really believe that the band's inexperience shows in this album.

THE HIGHS:
+The overall sound of the album is more of a punk sound. Even though it does not deserve to be called punk, in its self, it is faster and louder than The Fish's latter work.
+The horn section is extremely prominent, and well inter-webbed the rest of the music.
+Classic RBF!
+Its Reel BIG Fish!

THE LOWS:
-A few of the songs are definite fillers.
-The songs which were re-recorded for other discs, don't sound near as good on this album.
-Some of the songs sound like crap-"Trendy" sounds waaay better on 'Turn The Radio Off', on a couple of the songs it doesn't even sound like the band has ever played together in their lives.
-The horn section is very loose.

OVERALL:

A good album from Reel Big Fish. It could have used alot of re-mastering and overdubbing. But it is really fun to listen to the early sound of then poor band which now is a great band with a little more money to spend on production. A little faster and less serious effort then the post "Sell-Out" RBF. And i mean 'less serious' in a good way.

A Must for Reel Big Fish fans.
