5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Second Album
Jukebox's second album, Everything Under the Sun, fully delivers--with track after track of JTG's unique brand of pop excellence. It's alright, but that's really it. Empires, Schizophrenia, and The Stars are the three strongest songs on the album, which I had heard before purchasing. That being said, I expected a lot more from this album.

Jukebox's second album, Everything Under the Sun, fully delivers--with track after track of JTG's unique brand of pop excellence. Their songs are full of energy, catchy choruses, and pure artistic skill. Like the original JTG album (Let Live and Let Ghosts), Everything Under the Sun has a wide variety of tracks and sounds, but now with an extra coat of audio polish and skill brought by two+ years of touring and song writing since the original's release. This album is fantastic, and every track is a piece of art. Definitely check this one out.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST BUY FOR THOSE WHO APPRECIATE GREAT POP, September 18, 2010
This review is from: Everything Under the Sun (Audio CD)
This fantastic collection of pop songs begins with a pop masterpiece "Schizophrenia" that is not just a pop song, it is a magnificent pop composition. Yes, there's a difference. After Ben Thornewill lays down his two melody themes, the second of which is a killer two-bar hook, he then manages to stuff into the rest of the song a dizzying array of musical variations on his two-bar hook and his two melodies that owes as much to a classical music composition as it does to a standard pop song. The breadth and creativity of this display is astonishing. The support provided by Tommy Siegel (guitar) and Jesse Kristin (drums) is pitch perfect, particularly the way Kristin drives the coda to its ending. In another era, this song would be all over the radio by now and people would be comparing Thornewill's songwriting ability to a certain Paul, a certain Brian and a certain Prince.

By no means do I wish to downplay the songwriting of Siegel. His contributions to this album are quite strong, particularly "The Sun Interlude" which leads into "The Stars." Siegel also possess a great sense of song composition. All of the songs on this album possess something that is special and there isn't a weak track in the collection. As a work of art, it is the stand-out album of the year; the one I will most certainly continue to enjoy and return to in years to come. Plus, for those old enough to recognize the reference: "It's got a good beat, it's easy to dance to, I'd give it a 95." I knew nothing of this band until I saw them on Letterman on September 1, 2010 and I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Talent this rare is, well, rare. A must buy for those who appreciate great pop.

Everything Under The Sun is a delight to listen too. Brings a smile to my face. Knowing that many out there are looking at reviews to see what the Band is similiar to... I would compare them to Ben Folds Five mixed with a bit of Keane and just enough They Might Be Giants in there for amusement.

The missing facet of today's music albums is more than one song that you just can't live without hearing...not so with "Everything Under the Sun" by Jukebox the Ghost. They have a great collection on "Sun" and there are five excellent, including 3 great numbers! Not to denigrate the rest of the songs which are good, the great ones make you bounce all over the car when they come on! They fronted for the Barenaked Ladies and OMG, they were BETTER!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great musical hooks, very likeable pop, October 19, 2010

It's amazing that so much sound comes out of a trio, and almost always a really catchy hook to it that can lodge itself in your brain. There are a lot of surprising pop influences here but it isn't imitation, it's all original. If this CD were released in the "golden age" of Top 40 radio there would be several big hits off of it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great second album, September 15, 2010

I may be a bit biased since I know these guys, but this album quite good. The only bad thing about this album is that it doesn't completely encompass the fun energy that comes from their live shows. Each song is well done, well put together, catchy, lyrically fun and just plain clever. It's super fun, kind of pop-y music. It'll make you bounce. If you don't like to bounce or have your music make you happy, this may not be for you. Oh, they also like to write songs with strange/funny/off the wall lyrics and subjects so if you don't like fantastical whimsical lyrics...you're missing out!

This is well worth the $9 I paid for it. Well well worth it.

I caught these guys in Kingston, NY, opening for Bare Naked Ladies. They were fantastic. Went to the lobby at intermission and bought both their CDs. I've only been able to listen to this one, since I gave the first to my sister. But this disc is a nothing short of superb. Great tunes--poppy, yes, but with a lot of twists and turns and solid musicianship, not to mention quirky lyrics. Very nicely produced and mature for a young band. My wife has been playing this album *to death* since we got home.
