Absolutely his best!,

It's a shame that this cd probably won't get much notice, because it's such a wonderful collection of songs. Billy Mann got Garfunkel, Maya Sharp, and Buddy Mondlock together to work on this project, and what a great idea that was! This cd is one of those small gems in life that suddenly comes around unexpectedly. Six songs (I think) use Art Garfunkel's lyrics, which were taken from his poetry. Buddy, Maya, and Billy write some beautiful music for Art's words. Most of the rest of the album are Sharp and Mondlock songs, all of which sound great! At times it will remind you of Simon and Garfunkel, Fleetwood Mac, and The Mamas and Papas - always in a good way. I regret not having this album before I saw them in concert. They gave wonderful performances of about 9 of these songs, and I only wish I'd been a little more familiar with them beforehand. These three sing incredibly well together on stage. This is exactly the type of music I'd always wished Art Garfunkel would perform. This cd was a very pleasant surprise! My favorite songs are "The Kid", "Crossing Lines", and "Bounce". There isn't a disappointing song on the cd though.

Breathtakingly beautiful...,

I've only recently "discovered" Art Garfunkel's music separate from Simon &... I had always heard that his albums were a delight, but I never took the plunge until earlier this year, when I purchased the exquisite WATERMARK, mainly because I'm a huge fan of Jimmy Webb's songwriting.
EVERYTHING WAITS TO BE NOTICED had me a little worried, seeing as I wasn't sure if Art's vocal skills would be overwhelmed in an album that was also featuring other musicians/singers. I discovered within a few minutes that my fears were unfounded. When the "other" singers are heard, they blend in so perfectly with Garfunkel that you hardly notice them. In most cases it sounds like some of the beautiful vocal arrangements heard on Art's other albums. Garfunkel's voice is every bit as angelic as it has always been, and the "new" styles of singing he sometimes uses on this album still sound just like Art Garfunkel to me. If that makes any sense... What it does mean is that he's still simply one of the best "pure" singers we've ever had. As for Garfunkel's first attempts at songwriting, there is no way to guess which songs are his and which were written by "seasoned" songwriters. His creations are nothing short of superb, and I hope he continues to explore this avenue of creativity. Just hanging around Mr. Simon probably gave him better songwriting lessons than just about anyone else could have gotten in the past 50 years. Not that Garfunkel's songs are similar to Mr. Simon's, but they are memorable in their own right, and as lovely as the songs on many of Garfunkel's classic albums of the past. Sometimes you know upon first listening that you will spend a lot of time with a given album, and I am sure that this one will be a friend to my ears for many, many years to come. EVERY Art Garfunkel fan needs this extraordinary release in his or her music library.

Try it...you'll like it!,

In preparation for seeing Art, Buddy, and Maia in concert, I bought this CD a couple of weeks ago. I'd never heard of Buddy and Maia before and I didn't know what to expect. Wow, was I pleasantly surprised! This is a VERY good album. The songs have wonderful music and lyrics and the three singers' voices blend together perfectly. I've always enjoyed Art Garfunkel and now I'm anxious to hear more from Buddy Mondlock and Maia Sharp. They're both incredibly talented. I enjoy all of the songs on this album, but I think my favorites on it are Bounce, Crossing Lines, and How Did You Know. I'll tell ya. . .I'm playing this CD a whole lot more than I thought I was going to be. It's pretty addictive. Two nights ago I saw Garfunkel, Mondlock, and Sharp in concert. As good as the songs are on this album, they sound even better live. I hope that 'Everything Waits To Be Noticed' is the first of many collaborations between these three excellent artists.

Art's best solo work,
By
This review is from: Everything Waits to Be Noticed (Audio CD)
I love Art Garfunkel and always get his albums. In recent years, however, those records just seem like collections of covers Art has lent his gorgeous voice to. What a surprise this one is! First of all, Art cowrote a number of these songs. Second, he seems to be thriving amid the collaboration with Sharp, Mondlock, and producer Buddy Mann. This is certainly his best solo album since WATERMARK (his collaboration with Jimmy Webb) and maybe his best ever. I love "Bounce" and "The Thread" especially. Way to go, Artie!

Art Garfunkel returns with a slightly different feel,
By David Redd (Atlanta, GA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Everything Waits to Be Noticed (Audio CD)
I am a big fan of Art Garfunkel's solo work, particularly from the 1970s. His albums from this era consisted of richly orchestrated ballads, easy romantic standards, and traditional songs that served as perfect showcases for his vocal talents. He worked with excellent musicians and writers to produce some great (if not commerically well-known) work. For the past decade or more, however, he had largely turned away from albums, occasionally recording a new song on a compilation or another artist's album, but largely focusing on touring and other interests.Though it may more rightly be called a trio album, Everything Waits to Be Noticed is intended to mark Art Garfunkel's return as a full-fledged artist. Be warned, the feel of the album is somewhat different from the bulk of his earlier solo work, perhaps a little more upbeat, more instrument driven, and---needless to say---more focused on harmonies. It works very well however. Art has obviously surrounded himself with high caliber talent as always. The songs "Perfect Moment" and "What I Love About the Rain" are most reminiscent of Art's past work and, not surprisingly, are my favorites. All the songs have an appeal, however, and the opening tracks of this album will catch your attention with their intricate vocals and "bounce" and---as several have attested---should convince you to get this album.

I can't say enough about this album,

I found myself playing the songs back in my head in the morning. That hasn't happend to me for 10 years. Stunning. Beautiful. Capable of generating goose-bumps. His best work. In some of his earlier work he laid down tracks on top of himself to build the harmonies, which was effective but did not have the emotion and contrast that Ms. Sharp brings. Definitely the best album I have purchased in over a year.

Standout Album Showcases Art's New-Found Songwriting Skills,
By
This review is from: Everything Waits to Be Noticed (Audio CD)
On "Everything Waits To Be Noticed"--a real jem that unfortunately has been largely overlooked--Art Garfunkel's still-splendid voice is used to its best advantage on a very strong collection. The big surprise is that, for the first time, Art shares songwriting credit with collaborators Buddy Mondlock and Maia Sharp, younger artists who adapted prose poems from Art's collection Still Water, turning them into heartfelt, personal songs. As the late Ralph J. Gleason noted forty years ago, in the album notes to "Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme," "The songs on this album are songs for all time."

Voices doing what voices should,
By
This review is from: Everything Waits to Be Noticed (Audio CD)
I read the reviews of this CD. I got tickled. The voices do exactly what exceptional singing should do, make you think about the sound, not who is singing. The seamlessness of these three singers mesmerized me the first night I had it on. On the second listen I sat in my darkened living room just to feel the harmonies and the brilliance of the collaborations. This is the kind of CD that makes me glad I swore off commercial radio. Why listen to the nattering new generation when there are writers and singers who sing about my 50 year old life?

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Everything Waits to Be Noticed (Audio CD)
So i was in Tower Records at Lincoln Center and happened upon an in-store Art Garfunkel show & signing. I was surprised that Art Garfunkel was playing with Buddy Mondlock. I didn't even know that they knew each other. I've always respected the subtle genius of Buddy's musical approach. I was really never a fan of Art Garfunkel's post Simon attempts, BUT as the album says everything waits to be noticed. I liked what I saw in the store and bought a CD which I got autographed by all 3. The harmonies of the record remind me of what I enjoyed about Simon & Garfunkel. I got one for my dad for his birthday and besides being very surprised he really liked it too. So if you get the opportunity pick up this disc, you'll definitly be pleasantly surprised.PS- I'm 29 not a 1 year old

A thing of beauty,
By Martin Levine (Westport, CT United States) - See all my reviews

This is the best album I have purchased all year. The songwriting is subtle and romantic without being cloying and sappy. There are definite echoes of the best of Simon and Garfunkel, but the harmonizing of the three performers, especially Maia Sharpe is mesmerizing. I have listened to it over and over again for a week in my car and have yet to get sick of it. Pour yourself a really good glass of wine, put it on and sit back and feel good. |
