Book Description

July 17, 2009
All my life I have been a perfectionist. I never really looked at it as a bad thing. Like most moms, I was holding myself up to a ridiculously higher standard than I expected from anyone else in my life. But I took it over-the-top, because it was a standard too high to ever actually reach. The best I could hope for was to constantly fall short of my goals. I continued on this path of expecting perfection, but always getting less, for several years.
It was not until I was 35 years old that I had an epiphany about my perfectionistic ways.
Actually, I had breast cancer.

(Debbie Jordan Kravitz, Professional Organizer, Founder of Virtually Organized By Debbie LLC, Author of Everything I Know About Perfectionism I Learned from My Breasts).

Everything I Know About Perfectionism I Learned from My Breasts details secrets and solutions for overpowering perfectionism from a young breast cancer survivor and recovering perfectionist. Through her experience, as well as the stories of other recovering perfectionists, you will discover:
Why perfectionists do what they do,
the negative and sometimes secret consequences of living a perfect life,
life-changing A-Ha moments from recovering perfectionists,
solutions and strategies for overpowering your own perfectionism

Review

Debbie Jordan Kravitz is my hero. Drawing on her own formidable personal challenges, she has not only overcome perfectionism but is able to write a book about it. Everything I Know about Perfectionism I Learned from My Breasts is a book with great heart. You'll be inspired and learn your own path to living a more fulfilling life. --Judith Kolberg, Founder, National Study Group on Chronic Disorganization; Author of Conquering Chronic Disorganization

For many, breast cancer is a dreaded disease that can take your life. For others, like Debbie, breast cancer is a cure for the many things that keep us from changing our lives. Debbie's story is an inspiration to all of us by making us realize that even in the face of a life-threatening diagnosis good things can emerge. --Leigh Hurst, Founder, Feel Your Boobies Foundation

It is not every day that a book comes along that not only hits the mark, but is practical as well. It was a pleasure to read Everything I Know about Perfectionism I Learned from My Breasts. Everyone who has every procrastinated, held back or felt inadequate should read this book. It is the perfect antidote for perfectionism. I will certainly recommend this book to all my clients who have difficulty accepting that excellence and spirit are better than perfection. Thank you, Debbie, for the simplicity and joy that is shared in these pages.

I recommend we all take a leaf from this wonderful book; it is an amazingly optimistic and realistic look at having the best life you possibly can. --Wendy Davie, Author of The Accidental Organiser, President of the Australasian Association of Professional Organisers

About the Author

At the age of 35, Debbie Jordan Kravitz heard four words that would change her outlook on life forever: You have breast cancer. As a side effect of her battle to rid her body of cancer, Debbie eventually found a way to overpower her lifelong battle with perfectionism. She embraced her recovery as an opportunity to reinvent herself, follow her dreams and start living her life, as opposed to trying to perfect it.

Debbie set out on a new career path as a Professional Organizer and entrepreneur, founding Virtually Organized by Debbie LLC and co-founding Organizer News. She also hosts her own blog, Virtually Organized, where she helps readers from all over the globe simplify, organize and take back control of their chaotic lives.

A graduate of the University of Maryland Baltimore County with a degree in psychology, Debbie brings a unique perspective to the field of professional organizing. She is a member of the National Association of Professional Organizers and the National Study Group on Chronic Disorganization. In addition to on-site organizing services for both residential and small business clients in the York, Pennsylvania, area, Debbie offers long-distance virtual organizing consultations.

As parents of two active girls, she and her husband, Dan, have their own busy family to keep organized, too. Debbie enjoys volunteering and is actively involved in her local American Cancer Society Auxiliary. In July 2009, Debbie celebrated her 5-year anniversary as a breast cancer survivor.
