From School Library Journal
Gr 5-10-``Everything you need to know'' is a relative term. If students' needs are appropriately limited, this book will serve even hi/lo readers. Fictitious scenarios in which guns have caused problems are presented. The text refers to, but does not identify, studies and surveys; generalizations such as ``It's also more likely that the weapon will be in the hands of someone the youngster knows...'' and ``Most children shot at home...'' are common. Of the four magazine articles and five books suggested for further reading, only one is as recent as 1992; the oldest appeared in 1986. Although the text suggests a bias toward gun control, information on both sides is presented. Definitions for less-common words are subtly integrated into the text; other possibly unfamiliar words appear in a short glossary. Black-and-white and full-color photos appear throughout. While the lack of documentation detracts from the book's value, it does offer a readable introduction to the subject.-Dona Weisman, Northeast Texas Library System, Garland
