As an artist for Matt's tale of an eccentric, grand dame Aunt Marylou, along with all the other characters; it was a rewarding challenge to re-create these rich and vibrant personalities. Matt was relentless in his pursuit to visually portray each and every person as they were. No detail was overlooked. He made sure of that.

The story is hilarious. It is an outrageous page turner taking place in New York City.

When Matt and I initially meet, he kept telling me that his vision had to have a touch of "magic!"

Having only spent two hours in New York City, many years ago; I could not figure out what could be "magical" about the place. Not to mention the subtitle of his book "an impossibly glamorous, manipulative, sex-obsessed, New York City high-society matron." How could that be magical?

But after working with Matt and reading the manuscript, I understood! Perfectly.

There is certainly magic in his story ... and I guess you will have to read and find out for yourself. It's a wonderful journey! Trust me when I tell you, you leave the story a better person.

Working with Matt has been everything an artist could wish for. He is understanding, uncompromising and very creative. It's been an absolute pleasure.

GOD BLESS EVERYONE ON THE TENTH FLOOR!

Everything but Snakes is a "can't put the book down" read! FUNNY, POIGNANT, AND TOUCHING, Matt Phillips' relationship with Marylou Stern was a win-win--their mutual respect, friendship, and loyalty, are always obvious to the reader. A "peek" into the lifestyle of a rich, spontaneous, "crazy" but always CLASSY woman who was, above all, loving to her friends--especially those closest to her heart (Hazel and Matthew) and her beloved dog.

Matthew Phillips' gifted writing puts the reader "in the midst" of this part of his life-experiences. You can't wait to find out what's in the next chapter! THOROUGHLY ENJOYABLE!!! The author must be a truly "stand-up" and "stand-out" guy. The beautifully detailed NY City artwork (which enables you to "see" the places Matt writes about) and the Benjamin Franklin quotes under each chapter title put this book in a "class by itself!" WOULD BE A BROADWAY SMASH -- FOR SURE!!!

Philips' treatment of Manhattan's glitterati unveils a glamorous, wild and - frankly - a little disturbing look. What we all imagine it might be like to roll at that level and much, much more. What starts as what seems will be an exciting "coming of age" tale twists and turns so much your head will spin in decadent delight. From the diamond encrusted to the elite entrusted, Philips' exploration - more like expose' - of New York's highest rollers is at once dense with "island" references and intriguing, fun, and titillating for those of us curious "outsiders" scrambling for a sick and twisted peek. It's a dark world. Philips dives into it unafraid, all the while inviting us to grab hold and jump in with him. And leave your towel and trunks on the deck!

Dont be fooled by the title, this freshmen novel by Matt Phillips pulls back the curtain on the high flying no holds barred 80's lifestyle of the upper east side elite. a well paced read, matt shows us both the antics and also the daily struggles of our writer living and working in the big apple during this "wild west" enviroment ala Studio 54. Matt masterfully weaves a tale that as you get deeper and deeper into the story youcan see the underlying realationships develop and expose what the term family really means. Its not a tearjerker, thriller or romance novel, but it is good read especially if you have any bond with NYC, its just a good read, I liked it.. alot.

Rarely does a book hold my interest to the point that I can't seem to put it down! This story and these real life characters have resonated with me long after I finished the book. I actually have read it twice because there was so much going on in the book I wanted to make sure I caught every single, juicy, sexy bit! It's like Breakfast at Tiffany's on steroids! Unreal and sooo entertaining! Definitely recommend... of course you could always wait for the Hollywood film as I'm certain that must be in the works (but you know the book version is always better!)

As I was reading this book, I felt like I was actually there, living this life. The writing was superb, and the story line was really beyond fabulosity. It was so much fun to sit down on my couch and read this book with a cocktail. I really didn't leave my apartment all weekend. I was just dying to get to the end. I have been thinking about these characters for days, and interestingly, I actually learned a lot of life lessons from it.
