Book Description

3 and up
Everywhere in Mississippi is the wonderful, whimsical story of a man in search of his lost dog, Skippy. His journey across the state takes him through over 300 Mississippi cities, towns, and communities, all ingeniously integrated into this twisting, turning tale. In lyrical, rhyming verse, and delightful alliterations, author/illustrator Laurie Parker, a Mississippi native, has woven an enchanting yarn—vividly illustrated—that will engage and amuse Mississippians of all ages.

Asked if he has looked in PELAHATCHIE
For a dog that was really scratchy,

The man replies,

"Yes, I've looked there, thanks.

I've looked in ROSEDALE, and RED BANKS, CORINTH, COMO, COTTON PLANT, DARLING, DERMA, and DURANT, WAVELAND, WESSON, WEBB, WINONA, VICKSBURG, VARDAMAN, VERONA—Even up in OKOLONA!!

I've searched these towns in Mississippi,
And still I haven't found my Skippy!"

About the Author

Laurie Parker has enjoyed writing rhyming narratives and other poetry since childhood. Another of her long-time favorite pastimes is cutting and pasting colored paper to create collages such as the ones illustrating Everywhere in Mississippi.

A former schoolteacher, Laurie received her B.S. degree in Education in 1985 from Mississippi State University where she later also studied Engineering.

Her love of creating eventually led her to full-time work as a self-employed artist—crafting a unique line of jewelry which she currently sells through galleries and shows throughout the Southeast.

Laurie is also the author of three other books, Mississippi Alphabet, Texas Alphabet and All Over Alabama.

Laurie resides in her hometown of Starkville.

This review is from: Everywhere in Mississippi (Hardcover)
Excellent book for children and adults who have an interest in Mississippi towns and their unusual names. I bought 4 books to send to my grandchildren who live in Michigan and Oregon. Their Mothers are native Mississippians!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book!, October 9, 2004

This review is from: Everywhere in Mississippi (Hardcover)
When I worked in public education, I read this book to literally hundreds of children and they all adored it! It is wonderfully written and keeps the children's attention. The almost Seuss-like rhyming makes this fun to read for both children and adults alike.
