I have the "movie" version which is very good. This production is sung very well by all of the cast. I'm not crazy about the sets but opera is about the music and singing foremost. This is worth having in any collection! Martin Thompson, tenor I've never heard before was a wonderful surprise and Prokina is just wonderful. I've heard her in person and of course, that's better but this cast is excellent, orchestra fine, conducting very good. I highly recommend.

Pushkin would have loved it,

This VCR is a very nice version of the opera Eugene Onegin. It is extremely well sung and touchingly well acted. I think the preformers give us the characters as Pushkin ment them to be. The only flaw I find in this production is the poor stage decoration which deminishes the charm.

Spendid performance,

This version of "Eugene Oneghin" is one of the best; sung on stage, in Russian by Russians with extraordinary voices (all of them), filled with emotion, this interpretation displays all the beauty and sensibility of Ceaikovski's most popular opera.

I'm writing here to protest Amazon's sloppy listing. I have been hunting for a DVD copy or VHS copy of the Chicago Lyric Opera production of Eugene Onegin with Mirella Freni. Alas, they have lumped several different versions of this opera together as if they all had the same cast, although it is obvious these are all different performances. What is even worse is that for each different production, they have repeated the same comments. Hey, Amazon---WAKE UP please and fix this. Each entry of Eugene Onegin is listed as being performed by Freni, Dvorsky, etc., although it should be obvious the casts are entirely different. (sigh of disgust..)
