You must have this book if you are interested in the bible, February 18, 2008
This review is from: Evidence of tradition (Twin Brooks series) (English, Latin and Greek Edition) (Paperback)
This is the standard, the book that can be found in every scholar's library. It's been reissued many times, and someone out there should reissue it again.
Yet it's a very short book. A list, almost, of all the mentions of early Christianity, and the sources that mention the formation of the biblical canon, leading up to and including the canon issued by the council at Carthage in 397 AD. To be able to find exactly what books were included in the canon from the first up to Carthage is, alone, invaluable.
It's invaluable to be able to quickly pick up letter by Mara, for example, and get the exact words he wrote to his son without having to plow through page after page in a larger text. Furthermore, the exact text in the original language is printed next to the English translation.
If you are interested in early Christianity or the formation of the bible, you cannot live without this book.
