BETTER THAN YOU THINK IT IS!!!!!!!!!!!!,

This review is from: Evil Addiction Destroying Machine (Audio CD)
Most old school Mort. fans have written the band off in the last few years. All due to personell changes, musical style changes, vocal styles, you name it. I know, because I did the same thing. I gave up on these guys after the 'EnVision Evangeline' album. Fast forward a few years later, last year actually, and musically, I'm bored, when I discover a used copy of the 'The Silver Cord Is Severed' album. So I picked it up out of curiousity. After doing some reading on this album, I noticed that this is the LEAST fav. out of all the Mort. fans. But for some reason, I kept going back to it. At this time, Mort. was readying the release of their new album 'the evil addiction destroying machine'. Since I was on a Mort. kick, and also being a fan from their first few albums, I put my pre-order in. From the start, I was very pleased. It is well rounded in all styles of metal. It has influences from power metal, punk, thrash, and death metal. Personally, my fav. tracks have to be the title track, 'The Master of Reinvention' (killer lead melodic solo), ' A Sense of Eternity'(awesome riff and chorus)', 'Pilots Hanging From Shoulder Dust' (once again, great riff), 'Alexander The Metalworker' (very catchy), and the tribute to the Rez band that closes out the album is a good riff happy mid-tempo rocker. That's just half the album, but I can assure you that the rest of the album is just as good. As an added note, Adam Zaffarese is back on drums, from the 'Silver Cord...', and 'Relentless' album. This guy has very tasteful and powerful ideas, and from one drummer to another, I'm glad this guy is back. Guitarist Mick Jelinic has been in the band since the 'Relentless' album, and even though Mort. has had many great guitarists in the past, Mick has to be my fav.. His leads are very melodic and fast. If you want to witness this guy shredding, check out the 'Live Humanitarian' DVD. And of course, Steve Rowe. He is the chief songwriter, and he always delivers very heavy, catchy, melodic, and simple and good songs. You really should pick this one up. You shouldn't be dissapointed!!

This Albmum is the latest offering from the best Christian metal band in history Mortification. I waited quite a while before i got this cd i'm not sure why because i have all the other albums that Rowe and co. have put out. When i got this i automatically noticed the great cover art which is very similar to the Triumph of Mercy cover and the Relentless album. I think the artwork reflects the music thats on the cd. From the openning track to the last this is pure Steve Rowe at his best. The bass sound is fat and thick like you got steam rolled with a huge block of cheese. The bass is super thick and very much a signiture of Mr. Rowe. The Guitars are very heavy and crucnhy similar to the Erasing the Goblin cd. Adam Zacharese returns to the drums on this album after being gone for some time and does an amazing job, his playing has improved from when we last seen him. The overall sound is Steve Rowe dominated. By this i mean that the arrangements and riffs are signiture Steve Rowe that can be a good and bad thing depending on who you are. Each song is different but the same as well. Each song is heavy and fast and intriquitte with Steve's "Zig zag" style riffs. The songs should be listened to as a whole in my opinion as they have a similar style not varying too much from each other. I do believe this is as close as they have come to capturing their live sound of one guitar one bass and drums as when Mick goes into a solo all that can be hurt under it is bass and drums but never loses its depth and thickness. I believe Steve knew what he was doing on this album from start to finish. Steve's vocals dont vary too much either on this cd sticking more to the thrash type sound as on Erasing the Goblin or Primitive Rhythem Machine. There are some lower sounds but never goes too far from the mildly dirty growl which has always been my favorite out of all the styles that he has sang with. All in all this is a solid effort for the Mortification crew: heavy metal from start to finish from a pioneer in the metal community.
