sounds of terror, April 10, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Evil Dead (Audio CD)
Joseph LoDuca really captures the mood of a true horror classic with this haunting array of instrumental madness. From the opening notes of the peaceful but erie introduction through to the final notes of The Cabin/Wounded Melody you are thrown into a downward spiral of fear and pleasure. Lock your windows and doors, turn out the lights and enjoy the frights.

FINALLY, the 1st EVIL DEAD music score is re-released!, January 2, 2001
This review is from: Evil Dead (Audio CD)
The 1st Evil Dead film is more than just a great low-budget horror film. It is an excellent showcase of talent from a team of self-described "hack filmmakers from Detriot" overcoming all obstacles and making one of the most copied, influential (and FUN) independent films of all time. The music score is no exception. Mixing sweet string sections with great analog synth sounds, it is another important highlight of the films greatness. As a fan of the 1st Evil Dead film, I thought a CD of Joe LoDuca's music from this classic was a pipe dream. I've seen photos of it and was surprised that it was ever in print. An unsung hero of the Rennaissance Pictures crew is given his due. Excellent.

Great soundtrack to go along with one of the best no-budget horror flicks ever., December 30, 2005
This review is from: Evil Dead (Audio CD)
While most no-budget horror films of the late 70's early 80's were plagued with hideous synthesizer soundtracks, Sam Raimi's debut film, "The Evil Dead", featured wonderfully-composed music that actually sounded like a real score, not something a one-time wannabee "composer" with a synthesizer soundboard threw together overnight.
Indeed composer Joseph LoDuca has taken great care to make sure the score sounds as rich as possible, and succeeds with flying colors. Tracks like "Eye games" do a great job establishing the love between the two main characters, while other tracks like "Rape of the Vines" and "Skin" are noticably creepy.
Though LoDuca does use synth sounds time-to-time, he uses it intelligently and thus builds the barrier between ED's score and just about every other synth score of its time.
This soundtrack is pretty rare but if you come across it, don't hesitate to add it to your soundtrack collection!
Fine work from a rather underappreciated composer.
