Grünewald's Isenheim Altar has always affected me deeply after my several viewings of it. Monick's book provides excellent background on the work, and much to think about. I loaned it to a friend before she went to see the paintings, and she was very pleased to have read the book prior to her visit.

Many may wish to ignore the dated Jungian musings. They prevent me from giving the book a five-star rating.
