Book Description

March 13, 2007
Imagine you are adopted, and find out that as an infant, you were sold on the black market by a notorious baby seller who falsified your birth certificate. Your world is shattered. Your life has been a lie. The truth seems unattainable unless you can find someone to help you get back what was stolen, your real identity. Todd Walters is a man on such a quest. With the aid of a former private investigator, Boots Beaumont, the two men will begin a search into the unknown. FBI agent Frank Red Barron, discovers a modern day baby selling ring that leads him on a cross-country chase to find those responsible for the horrific crimes. Specializing in private adoptions, Sheila Stiles is a ruthless attorney who caters to the wealthy. She leads a diabolical crew who will stop at nothing, including murder, to give their customers what they want. On a fateful collision course, these two powerful and parallel stories will culminate in an emotionally charged ending that will both enthrall and engage down to the very last word. Based on many true experiences and current events torn from today s headlines, Evil Exchange is a chilling novel that exposes the dark side of adoption and will keep you on the edge of your chair from start to finish.

Review

EVIL EXCHANGE by Lori Paris & Joe Soll, a gripping, deliciously readable novel, combines for the reader, the escapism of a true crime/suspense narrative with the virtue of having experienced a vigorous, moral work-out. The theme is adoption, and the ripples of trauma that engulf families when an adoptee decides to search; and the main characters, painted with great care, navigate a common hidden darkness. . . that at the heart of every adoption reside issues of abandonment, loss, emptiness and guilt. Using the format of a lively, entertaining novel, with a large cast of characters; Paris & Soll explore the minefield of family life, depicting how emotional time-bombs can, and often do, explode beneath a well-ordered surface. EVIL EXCHANGE is a must read socially meaningful novel, that sheds light on a complex subject, from multiple perspectives. - David Kirschner, PhD., Psychoanalyst, author of ADOPTION: Uncharted Waters... A Psychologist s Case Studies... Clinical & Forensic Issues. --David Kirschner, PhD

Lori Paris and Joe Soll have devised a clever way to alert the public to a dark aspect of adoption: black market babies. This is an area of adoption which most people, including some who are victims of this practice, are unaware. Infused with intrigue and suspense, the authors lead us on a journey of kidnapping and murder for the purpose of procuring babies for unsuspecting American prospective adoptive parents. One of the unfortunate results of this practice is that, unlike the hero of this story, most of the adopted people in this situation will never be able to know their own heritage. EVIL EXCHANGE reads like a detective story, but has an important message to impart about a practice that is still going on today. - Nancy Verrier, MFT, author of The Primal Wound and Coming Home to Self --Nancy Verrier, MA

EVIL EXCHANGE is a fast packed action/adventure novel that is chock-full of intriguing characters and dangerous, life-altering situations. Ruthless criminals--willing to do the unspeakable--come to life in a baby-stealing adoption ring with shocking and often deadly results. The novel is informed by the authors' vast wealth of knowledge which clearly gives Evil Exchange its exciting edge. An intelligent and gripping work. Don't miss it. - Kari Caulfield, Attorney and author of Pretty Blue. --Kari Caulfield, JD

About the Author

Lori Paris was born and raised in Southern California and attended the University of California at Santa Barbara. She felt compelled to write about it, fictionalizing the story and characters. Joe Soll, L.C.S.W., author of Adoption Healing...a path to recovery is a psychotherapist in private practice and an adopted person who was sold on the black market. Adoption Healing ranks in the top 5% of book sales on Amazon.com. This is a suspenseful, gripping novel that grabs you from the first page and keeps you on a wild ride from cover to cover. Filled with dark truths about the world of adoption, the authors weave a tale of intrigue, excitement and mystery that it is filled with twists and turns that keep the reader enthralled. The authors story involves the reader with such depth, allowing the reader to travel the journey along with the characters. The authors write in a "grishamesque" style and this book should be on the best seller list!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Evil Exchange, April 11, 2011
This review is from: Evil Exchange (Paperback)
From first page to last page this book held my attention! Although the subject matter is abhorent, the authors handle it truthfully and don't sugar coat the evils of adoption loss. The characters are diverse and come to life from the opening paragraph to the last period at the end of the book. I cheered the "good guys" and very quickly felt hate for the "bad guys". The name of Boots Beaumont's boat "Lost & Found" is particularly clever and meaningiful in many ways.

There aren't many books that held my attention quite the way "Evil Exchange" did. I look forward to more "Boots Beaumont" mysteries and hope that Boots won't retire anytime soon.

I really enjoyed reading this book.
I took it on my holiday and it was great to read by the pool.
I could put it down and then come back and get engaged in the story lines.
It was interesting and held my curiosity until the very end.
