About the Author

The main problem I've had with this series is that the ghostly activity and the romance just doesn't seem to really go together or fit, or feel "right". I've read other books by Graham and they've been fun and full of romance and mystery. This entire series just feels so rushed and its very noticeable with all the bad editing throughout all the books. At least on the kindle preview versions I read.

I honestly didn't care at all for any of the characters in this book. The rest of the Krewe of hunters make an appearance about ½ way through the book. I was more into the murder mystery aspect and wish the romance had stayed out of it. In the end the killer and motive was just downright silly.

So, I liked the plot and the location and the history to this book. But hated the romance, characters, and didn't care for the killer and motive. Its really 50/50 for me with this book. I don't know that I'd even bother with another book in this series, I'm highly disappointed in the material given that its from a good author.

I guess I'm not in the right mindframe to be over enthusiastic about this book. I had just finished 3 Patricia Cornwell books and thought it would be nice to read something with a bit of supernatural thrills. I found the Evil Inside very light in intensity and just a sort of pleasant read that didn't grip me enough to want to rush to find out the ending. I never read any other books in this series, so perhaps I'm missing too much backstory. Anyway, I found the moments where the protagonist sees anything supernatural to be very lackluster in detail, feeling, and emphasis. Everytime the same character said 'Well, I'm with the FBI' I wanted to roll my eyes. Even the idea that her Krewe would be able to unofficially show up to help her seemed more like the Scooby gang than a FBI special unit. I thought the concept of the book exciting but the actual execution to be disappointing.

I was so excited about this release that I almost hyperventilated when I saw it in the stores early. I eagerly grabbed it and purposely saved it to read through the holiday weekend. I am a huge fan of Heather Graham's work and have previously raved about Krewe of Hunters Series #1, #2 and #3 and being that I had just returned from Massachusetts, I was even more excited to see the story that Graham would weave. Unfortunately, I was disappointed and not just disappointed, but disappointed that I was disappointed!

The characters felt pushed together, without a rhyme or reason to them. The story line felt as if Graham took the Lizzie Bordon story and lazily tweaked it to fit into something more modern and something that just didn't work. I felt no life in this story, or the characters which was a total let down.

I won't give up on Graham, but if you haven't read the previous books in the series, read those first and maybe skip this one because you won't miss much.
