The other reviewer did a great job of describing this movie, you'll have to accept this old flick with a sense of humor. There is, however a problem on this dvd. There is a hard freeze, a blank spot, and then it jumps into the next scene. I returned one copy of this movie, and Amazon promptly replaced it. Still at 50 min. and 57 sec this movie freezes, flutters, goes blank and then resumes, if you can live with it , ok. I am keeping this second copy, in spite of the flaw, just thought you would like to know ahead of time.

EVIL SPIRITS is in no way trying to be a "serious" movie about murder. It's a fun, schlocky, madhouse-type movie in a similar vein to SPIDER BABY or MOTEL HELL. Karen Black (TRILOGY OF TERROR, BURNT OFFERINGS, IT'S ALIVE 3, HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES) is the landlady, Ms. Purdy. She runs her boardinghouse much like Norman ran the Bates motel! Her residents just can't seem to stay alive for long, leaving her the chore of burying them in the back yard. Thank goodness she can continue to cash their social security checks! Filled w/ oddball characters, including Michael Berryman (THE HILLS HAVE EYES, THE DEVIL'S REJECTS) as a writer / peeping tom, a mute girl who dances continually, a drunk, and a medium. ES is complete w/ murder, cannibalism, a seance, and the disembodied voice of Ms. Purdy's late husband. We even get Arte Johnson (LOVE AT FIRST BITE) as a social security operative, Yvette Vickers (ATTACK OF THE 50 FOOT WOMAN, ATTACK OF THE GIANT LEECHES) as a nosey neighbor, Robert Quarry (COUNT YORGA: VAMPIRE 1 and 2, DR. PHIBES RISES AGAIN, DEATHMASTER, MADHOUSE) as a doctor, and Hoke Howell as the mailman! I can die happy now...
