Fugitive Recovery Agent Jessica Becket is hot on the trail of Lucas Baker. In the process of locating him she discovers that he's involved in a lot more than she thought. Jessie's best friend, Detective Samantha Cooper, has a hard time reigning Jessie in and keeping her out of trouble. She's on board helping her find out what Baker is doing though. Seth Harper is Jessie's new hire. He's a mysterious computer wiz and an undeniable asset to her.

Ex- football player, Payton Archer is trying to find his niece, Nikki who's disappeared. His search takes him to Chicago where Sam has taken over the case. Payton and Jessie along with the help of the Chicago Police Department and the FBI begin searching for Nikki and other missing kids who are being used by a group known to play in the human trafficking game. It's a race against time to get Nikki back but Payton won't give up, and Jessie can't. She faces her own demons every time she thinks of the missing kids. Together, they'll stop at nothing to save them and send the bad guys to hell, where they belong.

Sit tight, buckle in, and hold on, Evil Without a Face is a wild ride. The villains take Jessica, Payton, and everyone else on a high-speed chase to save Nikki and stop the bad guys. Outwardly, Jessica is tough as nails. She's scared, strong, and seemingly invincible but inside she's vulnerable and desperately needs some TLC. Payton carries his own internal scars, which is why when they meet, Payton and Jessie connect immediately. They are like kindred spirits, two halves of a whole. Along with the intense relationship that blooms between Payton and Jessie, is the frightening tale of internet predators. With excitement and danger on every page, Evil Without a Face is impossible to put down. Jordan Dane rocks my world once again with Evil Without a Face. I can't wait to read the elusive and mysterious Seth Harper's story next!

5.0 out of 5 stars Internet draws young girl into slave ring, February 15, 2009
By
Cy B. Hilterman "Cy. Hilterman" (Cherry Tree, PA United States) - See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Evil Without a Face (Mass Market Paperback)
Nikki Archer is a seventeen-year old girl going on twenty-nine who lives in Alaska. She is not happy with her life. She needs more freedom. Nikki, like far too many young people in our world of computers, has made connections with others online that she knew were good for her life and she decided to turn one of those contacts into a life-changing experience.

Jessica Beckett is a bounty hunter that goes gung-ho after her victims without regard for her safety, a fact that has hurt her in the past but the thrill of hunting and catching a wanted person for reward was her life. Lucas Baker was one such slum bag she was searching for. Jess had found a "cheap salaried" employee to assist her in her searches, one that was an expert on computers. She used Seth Harper as a backup but he was too new to put in a dangerous situation. She had to use Seth in a trial by error status. Jess also used a good friend and cop, Samantha Cooper, when she needed some information unobtainable to her.

Nikki's uncle, Payton Archer, was an ex-pro-football player and sister of Nikki's mother Suzanne. When he and Suzanne discovered Nikki missing they tried to track her down and eventually did find information on Nikki's computer where she had been talking and making plans to go with unknowns to Chicago. Nikki made good her escape from her home but got caught up in a sex/slave organization that captured many young girls and used them or sold them. Once they were drawn in to the organization, they had no way to escape. They had to try to live through much nasty and filthy handling and living conditions.

Payton, Jessica, Seth, and another good friend of Payton's and an ex-Alaska State Trooper, Joe Tanu, joined forces to attempt to track down Nikki, an undertaking that became a huge search and brought them too close to many seedy killers. The joining of forces with another international group to track the worldwide slave/sex monsters was really interesting and suspenseful. Jordan Dane is a fairly new author and all of her books have been sensational leaving the reader almost breathless following her characters with her very descriptive words and phrases of the humans as well as the various locations where they are active. I have not been disappointed with any of her books. She keeps the reader active during her chases and makes you feel hurt when your hero gets hurt and feel good when they capture the bad guy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Repulsively addicting!, February 5, 2009
This review is from: Evil Without a Face (Mass Market Paperback)
Jessica "Jess" Beckett is a freelance bounty hunter. Whenever she runs across abusers, Jess gives them extra attention due to her horrifying past. One good thing came from that terrifying time though, Jess made friends with Samantha "Sam" Cooper. It was Sam that helped rescue Jess so long ago. Now Sam is Vice with Chicago P.D. Though they love each other as sisters, Jess still cannot bring herself to fully trust her friend. New to Jess's bounty hunting team is young Seth Harper. Even though Seth is not what he appears to be, Jess's instincts told her to hire him on-the-spot. The young man can blend into upper crust crowds as easily as the lower and he is a computer genius.

While Jess is giving some extra attention to a low life named Lucas Baker, she and Seth stumble upon an international organization, calling itself Globe Harvest, that barters in human lives. Striking a major nerve from her past, Jess is unable to stop herself from going after Globe Harvest.

Payton Archer is a former pro football player. His sister, Susannah, and his seventeen-year-old niece, Nikki, are his reasons for living. So when Susannah frantically calls him and says that Nikki has disappeared, Payton charges into action. The leads take him out of state (from Alaska) and all the way to Chicago. The main players come together and only by joining forces do any of them have a chance of locating Nikki and possibly getting a foothold into Globe Harvest.

***** This one hits all parents with one of their worst nightmares, their child disappearing. The most chilling part of this story is that such organizations and their actions DO exist. Jordan Dane paints a grizzly plot with such realistic characters that they seem to jump off the pages. Repulsively addicting! *****

OK, so the male and female leads didn't even meet under 2/3 of the way through the book and I saw no attraction. I expected him to get together with Sam who he spent a lot more time with. And by the way, the start of the relationship between Sam and Jessica was not clearly explained nor was what happened to Jessica as a child. The characters weren't fleshed out at all. I've read a lot of Jordan Dane's books and she's a very good writer. I have the other two books in the trilogy so hopefully they will be better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thrill Seeking.. Bad to the bone.., April 5, 2011
This review is from: Evil Without a Face (Mass Market Paperback)
This was a action packed, real entertaining story. The hunt was thrilling and chilling all at the same time. Jordan took me through the raw streets of "bad people". Without giving up any spoilers these bad people deserved way more then what they got, but that is what made her story so real. Nothing about this was fake or too much.. I really enjoyed it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Romantic Suspense!, March 29, 2011
This review is from: Evil Without a Face (Mass Market Paperback)
Nicki Archer is tired of her mom spying and yelling at her. She talks to a young girl in an internet chatroom and makes plans to run away. It never crosses Nicki's mind that it may not have been a young girl she has been chatting with.

Jessica Beckett is a bounty hunter in Chicago. A victim of an abused childhood. Jessica has a personal vendetta against child abuser Lucas Baker. Even though he is not the one who abused her, she still is trying to find evidence to bust him. She steals his laptop, plants a tracer, and plans for him to lead her to an even bigger crime organization. Instead, Baker winds up dead with Jessica being the prime suspect for his murder.

Payton Archer is a has-been football player who brought his attitude and his alcohol addiction to fame. Not proud of himself, Payton lives alone in Alaska and continues to drown his sorrows. When his parents died young, Payton grew up fast, taking care of himself and his older sister. When his sister calls hysterical, he learns that his niece has disappeared. With the help of some police officials, he and his friend Joe are soon following Nicki's trail to Chicago.

Baker's laptop is linked to a multinational human trafficking organization, Globe Harvest. Jessica has a hunch that Baker was running kids. She thinks it is no coincidence that Payton is looking for his niece from Alaska, when Baker was expecting a package from Alaska on the same day. They team up, and find themselves on an action-packed, emotional rollercoaster ride across several continents.

Jessica is a smart and sassy heroine who will have you laughing and crying with her. She has guts, and is confident in her beliefs of right and wrong. Payton and Jessica are tentative with another for awhile, but soon they find something together worth hanging onto. EVIL WITHOUT A FACE is a non-stop action thriller that I couldn't put down. Terrific characters, a sound plot, and just the right amount of romance makes EVIL WITHOUT A FACE a sure winner!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hopelessly addicted to Jordan Dane, November 19, 2010
This review is from: Evil Without a Face (Mass Market Paperback)
Bounty hunter Jessie Beckett is working on her own (without pay) to bring down a local child abuser & ends up chasing after a multinational organization which trafficks young girls (gleaned from the internet).

She is so intent that she risks her life to save the girls (one, in particular, whom she meets at one point where she is imprisoned with them). Lots of suspense, & one can't quit reading till he/she learns the outcome of these teen-age victims.

I was hoping to learn more about Jessie's assistant, Seth Harper, but it looks like Jordan's next book goes into more depth on him. Can hardly wait to read it!

I wish everyone could discover Jordan Dane!

4.0 out of 5 stars "Evil Without a Face" by Jordan Dane, November 3, 2009
This review is from: Evil Without a Face (Mass Market Paperback)
Nikki Archer is like many 17 year olds (as I am finding out with one of my own) unhappy, restless, and needing adventure. Nikki found a friend on the Internet (a Russian girl nicknamed SnowMaiden) with similar angst and, better yet, a way for Nikki to escape the humdrum of Talkeetna, Alaska for a a better life. The tickets have been purchased and Nikki's escape from home has been planned.

Nikki leaves and her life changes more than she could ever imagine. Globe Harvest has just acquired another teenager.

Jessica Beckett is a bounty hunter (with a difficult past) in Chicago. She is chasing Lucas Baker a small time hoodlum she has been trying to nail for a long time. This time she almost gets him. Almost. Lucas escapes one more time, but, not without losing his precious laptop computer to Jessica.

He will kill to get it back.

In the meantime, Jess hands the laptop to her colleague, the mysterious, Seth Harper...computer whiz extraordinaire. Seth discovers that the laptop files have been encrypted. But, he manages to break the code and gather some information from it. In addition to visits to a Globe Harvest owned web site, one message in particular is disturbing (from an Ivan Andreyevich Krylov) and touches a nerve in Jessica:

"Delivery from AK on its way to Chicago as agreed. ETA two days."

Jessica realizes that the time frame for arrival is now...and she immediately sets out to intercept the delivery.

In Alaska, Nikki's Uncle Payton Archer (and ex-pro QB) is on Nikki's trail with the help of retired Alaska policeman, and long time friend, Joe Tanu. They know (after an investigation) she is on her way to Chicago and hope they can get there in time.

Back in Chicago, Seth is kidnapped and beaten by Lucas. To get Seth back, Jessica is forced to return the laptop, but, not without some enhancements installed by Seth that will enable Jess and Seth to track it's location.

As Lucas is recovering the laptop, he is murdered, and all heck breaks out.

Alexa Marlowe, working for a secret organization called the Sentinels, witnesses Lucas's murder and she, Jessica, and Payton join forces to try to find Nikki.

In a deserted warehouse complex, they almost succeed in rescuing Nikki and several other girls. But, Stas Petrovin, had planned for this eventuality with an escape plan that is literally......explosive.

"Evil Without a Face" is the second book I have read by Jordan Dane. The action is fast and furious, the plot is intriguing and the characters are flawed, likable, mysterious, and tough. I highly recommend picking up a copy!

Oh yeah....the reason the girls are kidnapped will shock you out of your seat. Needless to say...teach your 17 years olds not to go to far from home with people they know nothing about! Evil can indeed come without a face.

Also....it looks like "Evil Without a Face" is (? Jordan Dane can confirm ?) the first of a new "Sweet Justice" series, with an excerpt (and answer to what happened to one of the "Evil" characters) of "The Wrong Side of Dead" at the back of this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jordan Dane at her best!, June 29, 2009

This review is from: Evil Without a Face (Mass Market Paperback)
Jordan Dane's crime fiction books amaze me with each book I read. The characters are fresh and alive and the villains are nasty and sinister. I just love a good mystery and the maturity she pours into her books are things that even live television would not show. I hope Jordan Dane keeps at it and I am looking forward to her next book!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Evil Without A Face, April 23, 2009
This review is from: Evil Without a Face (Mass Market Paperback)
Queen of suspense Jordan Dane has done it again with another high-stake suspense novel. Formerly an energy sales manager in the oil and gas industry, she is now following her passion to write full time. Lucky for readers who crave a well-developed plot and suspense, Evil Without a Face takes you on an intense suspense ride. An exceptional new author with talent that will captivate all readers

Jessica Beckett is a strong-willed Chicago bounty hunter who lives on the edge and does just about anything to capture fugitives. Not only does she carry a Colt Python near her at all times, she also carries a painful secret from her past that drives her to this addiction, her personal mission, to give criminals what they deserve.

After hunting down Lucas Baker, a low life sex-peddler, she discovers he's involved in more than she expected. Jessica uncovers an online international organization operated in secrecy. A global conspiracy named Globe Harvest.

Seth Harper, a mysterious computer whiz, helps aide Jessica through this hunt of conspiracy linked to missing teens. Though his fancy home and intellectual behavior poses curiosity for Jessica, she decides to keep him as a contact.

Former quarterback Payton Archer makes a promise to his sister. He promises to find his seventeen-year-old niece, Nikki Archer, who has been abducted by an online predator. Suspicion leads to Globe Harvest, the circle of organization that thrives on committing heinous atrocities.

The chase starts off in Chicago and leads to Alaska. Jessica won't take no for an answer and is determined to go after Globe Harvest, even if it means risking her life. The CPD detectives make Jess a prime suspect. She counts on her best friend Detective Sam Cooper to help cover her tracks. Now not only is she on a hunt for a missing teenage girl, but she fears Globe Harvest is responsible for the abduction of Nikki Archer and many other missing girls.

Alexa Marlowe works for an organization, a private international organization that specializes in criminal cases with tough jurisdictional boundaries. But can Jess trust her? Would she regret giving the mysterious blonde the only evidence linking to Globe Harvest?

A suspense cliff-hanger with a well-developed plot, realistic exhilarating characters, and a touch of romance without the mush, what more can you ask for?

An excellent read!
