I bought this book for my son several years ago. He loved it and used it to keep his four-cycle Evinrude Outboard (a 90 HP model made by Suzuki) running as smoothly as possible.

I believe his engine was a 1996 vintage that he sold in 2008 with his aluminum-hulled center console fishing boat (17 foot length). He bought the engine "new" in 1998 on a special demo deal from a boat dealer in the San Diego, Calif. area.

The book seemed to be invaluable in his attempts to keep his problematic engine running smoothly (it's not a Honda!). After the first several of years of hard use, the Evinrude began having what seemed to be fuel-starvation problems, and it was finally suspected that the engine control module (ECU or ECM) was at fault. All other solutions were tried (fuel filter, electronic ignition, fuel pump, etc.) The repair manual did not help him with that problem - it would be over-reaching a bit to expect that kind of diagnostics (even the professional engine shops could not figure out the evasive and intermittent problem).

Overall he thought the book was very useful.
