State of the Union brings an EVOLving sound to EBM,
By
This review is from: Evol Love Industry (Audio CD)
"Evol Love Industry" is the kind of album that turns a good band into a great one. In fact, it could very well serve as the definition of their sound in the years to come.
The track "RadioMan" seems to be the one that's getting the most attention in US clubs, which is understandable. It's got a trance-type feel to it while at the same time not relegating itself into candy-raver territory (thank god.) It's very dance-friendly, but the rest of the album dwarfs this song in terms of quality. Songs like the title cut, "I Want" and "Dead Serious" (my personal favorite) are all perfectly geared for clubs. "Dead Serious" is probably the most infuriatingly catchy song I've heard in years, but not the kind of catchy that makes you not want to listen to it anymore. This isn't Britney Spears we're talking about here. Even off the dance floor, these tracks have some serious lasting value. When I first got this disc, it was in my car for three weeks straight, and 90% of my job back then was spent in the car. With "Evol Love Industry," SOTU have crafted something really special; something that not only surpasses their previous efforts of "Black City Lights" and "Impendum," but something that could very well hold its own as the best EBM album of the year when 2008 is all said and done. And I'm being "dead serious."
