Product Description

Mag Launcher and his crew are back for more role-playing adventures on the Dreamcast with Evolution 2. Delving deeper into the story and characters than did its predecessor, Evolution 2 starts by showing how Mag's dungeon-exploring exploits have gained him a little notoriety, leading Dr. Whitehead to invite him on a new expedition. This sequel adds a new character to the cast, Yurka, but there's reason to suspect his motivations. You'll fight battles both day and night, collect treasure, and solve puzzles that bring you further into the game's story.

Evolution 2 features 3-D characters, a third-person perspective, Visual Memory Unit support, and a turn-based battle engine that's easy to learn.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cool, but takes forever! July 15, 2000
By A Customer
Durability: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I thought that Evolution: World of Sacred Device was cool, but many people thought that it was horrible. They did not like the random dungeons, battle system, or short story. Take all the good things out of the first, add more good things and you have Evolution 2: Far off Promise. The biggest thing that people hated was the random dungeons. That is all ancient history. There is one dungeon that is random, but it is optional and is only really for training and earning extra prizes. The rest of them are pre-defined. Like in the first one, camera controll is sharp and easy to use, and you can see the monsters in the dungeons so you can try to avoid them or sneak up on them. However, because the dungeon corridors are so narrow, it can be hard to see some enimes. Another cool feature is that characters can use their Cyframes outside of battle to help them. Mag can use his arm to smash pillars, crates, and walls to discover secret passages. Chain can use her sword to "dash" past enimies, and Pepper can cause a commotion with her gun to lure enimies. The battle system is exactly the same as in the first one, so if you hated it, this game is not for you. Speaking of battles, they all have the music from the first Evolution and also have one new feature: Talents. Each character has unique talents to use in battle, and do not use FP, even though you have to wait for a long time to use it again. Another fun thing is the ability to change yor lead character so you can get their opinion on the city. The camera position is also better. The main one is the classic overhead position that shows your whole party, but the new one is level with the ground behind the lead character. The first game had little voice acting. It was limited to battle, and even then it was rare. Read more ›

4.0 out of 5 stars A cute,little RPG. October 15, 2002
This game begins where Evolution 1 left off.A funny train scene begins and you're off into the world of Mag Launcher.
The main strength of this game is the characters. All of them are loveable. It's very easy to feel like you're right there with them. They all express emotions very well.Never did they feel like tools to get to the end of the game.
The story is a very simple bad guy vs good guy one.Comments such as "This is no Final Fantasy" are not a very accurate way of decribing this game.Of course this is no FF.What do you expect?Anyways, the story does not go overboard with dark pasts. It's very suitable for children. And While the story itself is somewhat lackluster, the adoreable characters work to keep it from getting too dull.
The gameplay revolves around going into various dungeons, fighting monsters, asending to higher levels, learning new attacks, while progressing through the game.
The dungeons themselves are sometimes quite long.Make sure you have a few hours of time before entering a new one.The good news is there are no random battles.Enemies are clearly visible and you may try and run away from them if you wish.I wish the developers put a little more effort into the scenery(Or lack there of). There is really nothing more to look at than the same ol walls.
The battles are kinda fun for it just being a simple turn based system. There are a lot more skills, magic, techniques, ect to learn than in games such as Grandia 2 or Skies of Arcadia. It makes you want to level up to learn them all.
The only real complaint I have is that this game is far too simple. It could've been a huge sleeper hit if these characters weren't trapped in such a simple world.Everything, but the character designs are simplistic.
I would say that this game is good for anyone who wants an RPG just to fight monsters, learn cool attacks, level up and save the world. If you're looking for a deep storyline and a more complex battle system,go buy Skies of Arcadia or Grandia 2.

4.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT! October 9, 2000
A Kid's Review
This game is exactly what I think makes a good game. In short, it is basically Final Fantasy VIII. It has turn-based battles, so an enemy can't suddenly jump out and start hurting you, which for me makes it not nearly as stressful, and gives it a less frantic feel. The reason I gave it a 4-star rating is because there is only one save point per dungeon, so unless you have a lot of escape powder, which transfers you back to the town were you can save anytime, you will often times find yourself leaving your Dreamcast on overnight and while you are at school, which is pretty bad for your system. Plus the dungeons are just a little too long. Other than those two things, this game is perfect! However, I don't recomend it to people who like real-time fighting.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fair RPG September 23, 2002
Evolution 2 is a fair rpg game for the Sega Dreamcast. It has much difficulty, but pushes you to play more and more. It's a great game for the younger crowd but is also suitable for last minute dreamcast buyers. Though gameplay is fair, magic is awesome with unigue attacks from different characters. In the end, it is a pretty good game, looking at around [amount] for a new game.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sluggish and boring but it has something else October 28, 2001
Well I bought this game and egarly awaited trying it at home. As I did I found it slow moving and boring. The dungeons are way to big and you can save once, that means it requires about 4 hours out of your life to do a dungeon or waste your money on escape things to get out before you go crazy. The story doesn't do a whole lot either and will someone tell me why it isn't in English?!?! There is only a few good points to this game: even though the story is boring I feel compelled to complete it, the fighting and the learning or new skills keeps me interested, and it only cost me 10 bucks. So if you have beaten everything else or only have 10 bucks on you try this game otherwise why waste your time you'll just forget about it in time anyways
