4.0 out of 5 stars They call it a 'soundtrack' ..., July 10, 2001

... but it's what is generally marketed as a 'score' these days: that is, it's all the orchestral music that sets the atmosphere in the film. I'll have it on as background music while I'm doing something, and suddenly a passage will call to mind a scene from the movie! Guess I was paying attention when I saw it. ;-)

Oh, and the song that plays in the beginning of the film, with the vocal track? That's 'Anyway the Main Thing Is' by Patty Larkin, from the CD 'Regrooving the Dream.' Sit a-a-a-all the way through the credits at the end of the film -- they list all the songs there!

4.0 out of 5 stars Song Please, April 16, 2002

I love this CD, but I had a question to those songs that aren't on the CD such as 'play that funky music', 'bombshell' and 'out with a bang'. I'm assuming that the music at the very END of the movie right before and during the credits is 'Self - Out With A Bang' ...

Get a clue kids...don't give the cd a one star review because your favorite pop songs are not here. Review based on the quality of the compositions written for the film..."Morons, I've got morons on my team"

4.0 out of 5 stars SOUNDTRACK, not SONGTRACK, June 26, 2001

Sarah, it's people like you that tick me off. You don't realize how hard it is for composers (do you know what a 'composer' is?) to create a new theme and new music for every film they're hired to do. This is a SOUNDTRACK, i.e. it's music from the movie. It's not a SONGTRACK. If you want SONGS, go buy a group album. And if it doesn't have what you want on it, DON'T BUY IT!!

Oh, and John Powell's music is awesome!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hero Complex, March 18, 2003

As you can probably notice, this is just the composed music from the movie. In that respect something is missing, but when I first heard the composed part of this movie I knew I had to have it.

This soundtrack is not like other soundtracks, such as Jurassic Park, or Independence day, though they are just as good in what they try to convey. However, in most composed soundtracks there is an element of repetition that sticks throughout and there is always the risk of it getting rather dull and boring after a while (Take A Beautiful Mind, for example).

Not with this soundtrack. The first time I listened to it I immediately knew I was going to replay the entire CD. Now, there is a common theme in these tracks, though it is not at all repetitive, and when it does repeat, it's just a stunning combination of instruments playing together. True, the tracks are rather short, but tracks like 14 and 15 makes you realize how amazing it all comes together. The next-to-last track is one of the most interesting ones. It's very jumpy and powerful and at the same time not repetitive. You'd have to listen to it to appreciate how the composer mingled so many melodies that transition perfectly from one to the next. There's just the right element of heroic, suspenceful, and calming music put on this CD without making every other element obsolete.

Now when I listen to it, every time I feel like I'm the hero in the movie. I honestly believe this is perhaps one of the few composed soundtracks that fits perfectly with the movie. In fact, if you saw the movie twice, this soundtrack IS the movie all packaged up neatly and ready to go in your CD player. The music is dynamic and each track is perfect for the scene it represents. The trumpets evoke a strong sense of heroism and the other instruments compliment each other very well. I don't think there's been a time when I haven't smiled listening to this CD. It could be considered somewhat like an anti-depressant. Granted, it's probably not for everybody, but if you like composed, jumpy, and heroic music then you should pick this up and listen to it.
