I don't give a s--- what anyone says ; Make Some Noise is one of the best albums of it's kind EVER, and Here's the Deal was close, but still had it going on. However..... Hmmm. Don't know what it is. Very scattered, not cohesive. Horn parts get very annoying because once they're introduces, they never change!!!! That's always been the way but it's never been this annoying. I REALLY hope they release a better album to follow up. I'll buy it no matter what, but just didn't groove on this one.

Being a huge Liquid Soul fan I couldn't wait to get my hands on this CD. However, I was VERY disappointed, as this disc is not in the same league as their previous releases. Their first three discs are some of the best in the genre, and are loaded with inspired jazz funk. By comparison this release feels watered down and contrived. Liquid Soul has been the best of class when it comes to funky, soulful, crank it up and party jazz. I hope they return to their roots with their next release.

Not LS best,
By A Customer

This CD is not their best album, it seems that they are short on good ideas. The groove tunes don't seem to have the creative energy that those of Make Some Noise had, and other tunes are lacking in more than energy. Still, the CD has a handful of good tracks that are still going to move you and are worth having.

Should have been titled "De-Evolution-1/2 Star Performance",

Being a huge Liquid Soul fan, I was extremely disappointed to find that there wasn't a single track on this CD that stood above the rest. This album is sub-standard LS at best. Even the MC's they brought into the studio for a couple of tracks lacked the style and intensity we've come to enjoy on earlier works. Gone are the infectious groove liques and sampling that defined "Make Some Noise" and "Here's the Deal" as two of my all-time favorite albums. I can only hope they'll "Re-Evolve" back into the band they once were.

I really dont understand the negative reviews for this albulm. This is a great albulm by Liquid sould. Whether it is your first purchase from them or you just want to add it to your collection this is def worth your money. Compared to other "jam" or "funk" bands out their liquid sould is among the cream of the crop. No one has a sound like liquid soul. Love this group.

Funky,Funky, FUNKY!,

Chicago jazz funksters LIQUID SOUL's 4th CD continues the groove
laid down by the first 3. Since 1994 they've been dazzling Chicago and the world with funk rhythms on bass/drums/guitar + free/avant-garde jazz solos from the 3-man horn section + hip-hop flavor from various rapper/deejay combinations - this plus occasional female vocal stylings and keyboard grooves, all mixed together in exhilarating fashion. This collection's hi-lited by "I Was Meant To Be Rich" and "Rage Experiment" with staccato muscular horn riffs and great wailing by MVP sax man/band founder and leader MARS WILLIAMS. Also great is the Was/Not Was-like "Nina's in Jail". I love this disc but gave it only 4 stars due to the move toward more funky stuff and away maybe a little bit from the Sun Ra / Albert Ayler ambiance of earlier material. But that's a quibble. Buy this and get ready to dance, or at least shake a little bit! |
