Editorial Reviews

Evolution¸ Paul van Dyk's sixth artist album, is to be released March 20, 2012. A document of where the acclaimed producer is with his own musical evolution after an impressive twenty year career, the record features numerous collaborations including vocalists like Plumb and Adam Young of Owl City and up-and-coming international DJs and producers like Arty and Giuseppe Ottaviani. The album will be released both as a digipak CD and in a rich 180 gram double LP version both of which feature sumptuous artwork that takes the evolution concept one step further focusing on a future Earth where nature and technology collide in unexpected ways.

5.0 out of 5 stars What an absolute success!! April 3, 2012
By MLM
Format:MP3 Music
In this latest album, PVD has proved that he is one of the few artists that has been able to evolve and contribute to the ever changing sounds of what we broadly term as "electronic music". "Evolution" cannot be classed as any sub-genre... he has put a fantastic progressive spin on many sub-genre's including house, trance and drum & bass. He has breathed a breath of new life into all of these long established styles.

Rarely can you find an artist album that from start to finish is a pleasure to listen to - every song holds up on its own and brings a uniqueness and originality by itself. Really good choice of collaborations and fantastic vocals - especially from the girls!

Congratulations Paul! Can't wait to hear all the remixes that are surely on their way!

2.0 out of 5 stars American style EDM - not the old PVD :( June 9, 2013
By Sami
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Overall It sounds like PVD was aiming to please modern dance lovers. It is not as good as his previous work. If you grew up on the old PVD - For an Angel, Tell me why, the whole Politics of dancing, Another way, Avenue, his many great remixes, you'll probably be appalled by this CD. At times it feels like nothing more than happy feel good modern american-style EDM trash. Not nearly as deep as his older music an not a hint of goa like was in his very early stuff.

I say that honestly too, it's got a couple of nice tunes, but that's hardly a redeeming feature when his old works were so good because they were like a woven tapestry with fine detail. Believe me, if you liked all the things about PVD that made him so interesting, his intricate melodies, interesting drum sounds and fx, you'll hate this, probably.

EDIT - Okay so some time has gone on. While I don't need to change my opinion on the quality of this work vs the quality of his older work I should say that as a stand alone this is on the better side of the new EDM sound. Still, not what I hoped for from PVD. We could really do with his unique and brilliant style today to shake things up a little. Far too much homogeneity in dance music now.

4.0 out of 5 stars As close as to the old PVD August 19, 2012
By Smith
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Trance music and the EDM scene has evolved, so it's hard to expect artists to be able to stay the same after so long. I must admit, I was disappointed by Paul van Dyk's last release (In Between), but I can say this album brings back a lot of elements that make PVD a unique force in the EDM scene.

Standout tracks are The Ocean and Verano; though the PVD Full Fire remix of Verano is much better in my opinion (that remix is not on this album).

I absolutely love Rock This, its a great upbeat track. Lost in Berlin is a memorable track and the closing track Heart Stops Beating is really nicely done. One more thing, PVD's collaboration with Giusseppe Ottaviani for A Wonderful Day is probably the track that I think closest brings back memories of Paul Van Dyk and the EDM scene from early 2000s.

I would recommend this CD, it is a brand new PVD album with the classic PVD still shining throughout the album.

4.0 out of 5 stars nothing like his old stuff but... April 4, 2012
Format:Audio CD
there's a reason he called it evolution... he's slowly making the switch from trance to the blurring lines of trance/house=trouse sounds... while not as good as imo as "in between" it's an above avg album... there are still some trance tracks(dae yor stands out) and a mix of both(verano), pvd is still a god in the edm scene, been a fan for over a decade, and seen him live at least once a year everytime he comes to nyc... don't sleep on pvd yet, he's still banging it out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really awesome! May 6, 2012
By YuliaPa
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I found this Album really great. Better: awesome!
I was about to discover PvD, so I bought the album by the way (It was quite new at the moment) and was really excited about how the songs sound. I live in germany so I had to wait one or two weeks. But then I was reallly happy about I buyed this album!
Every song is just too good and I knew only two songs (one track) from the album, Eternity and, of course, Verano, before. Then I knew these all other (13) songs and was really happy :D

Also I found out a lot about other Artists, my favorite one on this album except Paul was Arty.

I enjoyed the booklet, too :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent April 3, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This album by PVD really grows on you. You hear the singles then you start understanding what he is trying to do after a few listens of the tracks. I'll admit at being a little bit of a PVD homer but he never ceases to disappoint and improve. He's in a class of his own like...Messi, Jordan.
