1.0 out of 5 stars Roman Polanski Not Really Involved, January 15, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Evolution of Snuff [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I'm guessing that most people who come across this video will have found it because of Roman Polanski's name. On the sleeve of the video it credits Polanski as writer, director, and narrator. Sadly, when you actually watch the video you discover that Polanski had nothing at all to do with it. The "narration" with which Polanski is credited consists of approximately 30 seconds of a filmed Polanski interview (which appears to be archival footage from about 1970)...the other 80 minutes of the video have no trace of him whatsoever. Unlike the video sleeve, the video itself writing/directing credits are given to other people. Polanski's name and image were clearly slapped on this piece of garbage in a vein attempt to give it some chance of selling. I'm surprised Polanski hasn't sued.

As decay of the porn film business. It has the fake feel of something like "Spinal Tap", but without humor. There's nothing so embarrassing as watching bad actors pretending to be giving spontaneous, unrehearsed interviews. Every moment of it was painful and dull to watch.

When I stumbled across this video I thought I had found a lesser-known Polanski project, possibly an unpublicized gem. I have written this review with hopes that others like me won't make the same mistake
