This review is from: The Evolution of the Wooden Ship (Paperback)
An outstanding summary of wooden sailing ship construction techniques and parts throughout history. Describes how the earliest boats were built several thousand years ago and concludes with the well-developed sailing vessels of the 1800's. The book is very detailed from a shipyard standpoint of how the materials were selected, the parts were shaped, and the hull and masts were assembled. Describes the major and minor parts of these ships and the purposes they served.
An excellent reference for shipwreck archaeologists, divers, ship modelers, and enthusiasts of wooden sailing vessels. |
