5.0 out of 5 stars This game is a great epic adventure.
If you liked "Chrono Trigger" and "Final Fantasy VII" you're going to love this! This game is action packed, with the stlye of "Chrono Trigger" and the gameplay of "Final Fantasy VII," you'll play it over and over agian. It also has the 3D arts of "Dragon Ball Z's" Akira Toriyama. Definatly a must get!

3.0 out of 5 stars Bored after 2-3 hours
After waiting for weeks for an RPG to be released for Dreamcast, I snatched up Evolution and ran home to play. Sadly, I found the game lacking in the following ways : 1. No apparent story or character development. 2. Endless hours spent in dungeons that are tedious and boring.....no variety from level to level. 3. B-O-R-I-N-G This game is basically a string of...

It is almost here, the New Millenium. And bringing with it a new style of RPG games. Out with the old and in the with new. The graphics on the game are absoultly stunning! The game play is not to hard and it is a game that once you start it is hard to put down. But BECAREFUL! When playing this game because it is so consuming make sure you have a VMU pack to save all the fun. This is a game for those who grew up playing the very first Final Fantasy game and for those who thought RPG's are for loosers or their too weird, also for those of you who must have the absolute best that even impoted games like FF4 and FF5. This game is GREAT for everyone. If RPG's are going to be any better than this one on Dreamcast we are all in for a REAL treat.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Very Good RPG, February 7, 2000

Evolution is very reminiscent of Phantasy Star II for the Sega Genesis in gameplay and style. You control up to three characters (very cutesy drawn)at a time to go through the standard dungeon fare to build charaters and find neat stuff to pick up along the way. The storyline is OK, but you end up not really caring about it.

Very nice graphics and interesting special effects keeps you visually impressed, but the depth is short. Hardcore gamers will beat this game in a weekend, but for someone like me who only plays once a weekend, it'll take a month to complete. Not bad given it's low price.

This is a good game for those who want to see what RPG's are all about. For a game with more depth, get any of the Final Fantasy games.

Overall, I did enjoy this game and I'm glad I bought it.

This game, although the characters all look like children, is really fun. And all the special moves are excellently done, with great graphics and very original power ups. Mags Hammer and boulder moves are visual masterpieces, and that mach punch is awesome. If you enjoy RPG's buy this.

This game is a truly wonderful first RPG for Dreamcast. It is funny, challenging, and doesn't take 30 min to beat. The battle system is identical to that of Final Fantasy VIII, and that is a damn good battle system. Can't wait for Evoulution 2!

3. B-O-R-I-N-G This game is basically a string of battles that, although visually superior to anything Playstation has to offer, becomes tedious since there is no plot or storyline to hold your interest. I have played 6 Dreamcast games since September, and have to say that I am really disappointed. I love the graphics, but the quality of the games is abysmal. It almost seems like they rushed these games into development without any attention to detail beyond graphic beauty. The only games that hold any real appeal are the fighting games (Soul Calibur) or Arcade games....and for a die-hard RPG /Action player like myself, that is just not enough to hold my interest. I am hopeful that , with time, Sega will get on the ball and produce games that are more than just pretty to look at. They had better hurry up though, Fall 2000 is rapidly approaching and I am already saving my pennies for a PS 2.

If you're reading this, you've already done yourself a huge favor: always spend the time to read several reviews before you spend the several dollars. With that said, I wish I had read as many REviews as I did PREviews. I bought into the pre-release hype about Evolution being the first RPG for the Dreamcast, and in the midst of my Christmas shopping I bought a copy for myself. It took just about an hour to realize I wanted my 50+ dollars back!

The game begins beautifully, and manages to remain a beautiful piece of artwork...but I wanted something to play, not frame. The town where the game begins is well crafted, it's too bad the game doesn't revolve around the town. It instead crawls into random dungeons that soon begin to look the same. Visually, the game kept me hoping for some satisfaction for several wasted game clock hours, but each dungeon became increaslingly aggravating as the boring sense of deja-vu finally lead me down the street to the nearest game-pawn-shop to salvage what cash value I could out of this dull game.

If you're still interested, RENT IT FIRST!

5.0 out of 5 stars This game will evolve your mind!!!, June 1, 2001

About a month ago i saw evolution on the shelf of my local gaming store and it was $9, i said the heck with it, bought it, played it, and fell in love with it. This game redefines the letters RPG, the graphics are terrific (what game on dreamcast doesnt have good graphics)and the camera angles are stunning. The first time I got it I played it for 2 hours with my jaw open. My eyes scrunched up and i couldnt wait to play it the next day, and one other thing, Linear is terrible, i mean a frying pan??? come on. But Gre is the best, with his gun and "Matrix like attacks" without him, theyre is no room for success. A truly ignored but wonderful game.
