5.0 out of 5 stars Great comfort, value, and performance
I love these shoes! I've been climbing for about a year (mostly indoor), and have found these shoes to be a great performer and quite comfortable. To top it all off, they are toward the lower end of the price scale, which makes them a winner all around. Whether indoor or outdoor, these have done well. I have a wider foot, and these shoes seem to be designed to fit a foot...

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent starter shoe
These were the first climbing shoes I bought. They lasted about 6 months (climbing indoors 2-3 times a week) before I wore a whole in both toes. They are decently comfortable for a lower end shoe, but now that I have been climbing with my new 5.10 Anasazi's I can understand why they are so much cheaper. The Anasazi's are a huge step up in accuracy and aggressiveness,...

I love these shoes! I've been climbing for about a year (mostly indoor), and have found these shoes to be a great performer and quite comfortable. To top it all off, they are toward the lower end of the price scale, which makes them a winner all around. Whether indoor or outdoor, these have done well. I have a wider foot, and these shoes seem to be designed to fit a foot like mine. I particularly like the medium curvature - too flat and you can't be as agressive with cracks and edging - too curved and it isn't comfortable. This really is the best of all worlds.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Comfortable, Wear out quicker for rookies like me, January 11, 2010
This review is from: Evolv Defy Climbing Shoe (Black) (Apparel)
This was by far the most comfortable shoe I tried on and 8 months later I still love them, but wore a hole in the toe from my early days of foot mashing on the walls.

Know if you're a rookie like I was, the toe will wear out if you use the wall like sand paper instead of more seasoned foot work. Mine lasted ~8 months and I just ordered a new pair that will hopefully last 12 months with better footwork.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent starter shoe, February 15, 2010
This review is from: Evolv Defy Climbing Shoe (Black) (Apparel)
These were the first climbing shoes I bought. They lasted about 6 months (climbing indoors 2-3 times a week) before I wore a whole in both toes. They are decently comfortable for a lower end shoe, but now that I have been climbing with my new 5.10 Anasazi's I can understand why they are so much cheaper. The Anasazi's are a huge step up in accuracy and aggressiveness, without really sacrificing any comfort. If you are new to climbing and aren't sure if you want to shell out $130 for shoes the eVolvs will be a good starting point, but if you want to do some real climbing look for something else. And start with the 5.10 Anasazi (FiveTen Men's Anasazi VCS Onyx Climbing Shoe)

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good shoe, January 8, 2010
This review is from: Evolv Defy Climbing Shoe (Black) (Apparel)
I bought these as my first climbing shoe, and they've been great. They're comfortable and perform well. There is one main problem that I wish I knew about ahead of time though. I climb without socks, as alot of people I know do, and after about 10 to 15 uses, they begin to smell pretty bad. So if you have somewhere to put them and let them air out it shouldn't be too big a deal, but its something to know

5.0 out of 5 stars Comfortable all day climbing shoes, December 16, 2009
This review is from: Evolv Defy Climbing Shoe (Black) (Apparel)
These shoes are spectacular. They are comfortable to wear for a whole entire climbing session and not even take your shoes off. They are a great all around shoe that perform good in all aspects. I highly recommend them for someone looking for a reliable shoe that does it all or a person looking to buy their first pair of climbing shoes. You can't go wrong with the defys.

3.0 out of 5 stars good shoe but not for beginners, December 17, 2009

the defys are comfortable and preform well for the majority of climbing styles. they are quite soft which makes them good for steeper climbing and very comfortable but reduces durablity. i think they are good shoes but would say that they are not a good beginner shoe. i can see the appeal to beginners as they are comfortable but ultimately feel that a beginner needs a shoe they can abuse. a good shoe for the advanced and intermediate climber but i would recommend something more durable for a beginner.
