Amazon.com Product Description

Serious climbers need serious shoes, and Evolv has answered the call with this high-performance shoe. The synthetic upper is perforated for breathability and non-stretch for a consistent fit. The toe rand has even been extended for optimal hooking. You may be concerned about an upcoming climb, but you no longer have to be concerned about your shoe.

Product Description

With a design influenced by Chris Sharma, Evolv created the first signature-series climbing shoes, the Pontas. Chris needed a piece of precision footwear to send his deep water soloing project Es Pontas, and Evolv brought him the goods with a sticky TRAX XT-5 sole and a stretch-resistant Synthratek synthetic upper. The Pontas Climbing Shoe takes on the most technically demanding boulder problems and sport climbs with ease. And deep water soloing it does that too. 5.0 out of 5 stars Lean and mean, July 23, 2011

Have used these shoes for a couple months now (mostly outdoors) and am very pleased with their performance.

They do everything well, especially edging and toe hooking. The Trax rubber is very sticky, so the trade-off for performance may be not as long life. However, after about 10 climbing trips, they still feel like new. The yellow does start to get kind of dingy after a while (outdoors), but that's a pretty minor complaint.

I highly recommend ordering your street shoe size, or half a size smaller at most. These run small compared to other brands! I originally ordered half a size down, and had to exchange for street shoe size since the toe box was just too cramped. Also, they do not stretch, so if it hurts out of the box, it probably will continue to do so.

I am very satisfied with these shoes and would recommend them for intermediate to advanced climbers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Are these different than my defy's? Yes they cost more!, September 24, 2011

Good shoes but I'm glad I didn't pay full price for them. I also have evolv defy shoes and once they are on my feet I can't tell the difference. The Pontas has a little toe protection for sticking cracks and the heel is higher & might grab some peoples' heels better, but everything else looks and feels the same as the Defy (which costs less). I don't have the smell problem with Evolv shoes that others experience, but then I use foot powder when I put them on & I frequently WASH MY SHOES!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good shoe if it fits you well, March 16, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I loved the shoe and the rubber is great but the toe box is a little small for my foot and put a lot of pressure on my big toe knuckle and since they don't stretch it didn't break in and stop so I traded them to a friend...I did like them very much though and if you like the fit of evolv shoes in general then I highly recomend them...I would suggest trying some on first if you have a wide foot at all though...
