Evolution of Godhead,
By Ryan S Matheny (St. Petersburg, FL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Evolver (Audio CD)
When I first put this CD in the player I was expecting to hear something much like 2000 Years of Human Error. As I listened, I realized this was not going to be the case at all. With Evolver, Godhead daringly takes a different step with its music. The influences of Marilyn Manson (producer of 2000 Years of Human Error) are noticably lacking in this album, and that just might be a good thing. The overall sound is a bit more mellow and mainstream than their previous endevours, which, I must admit, took me a little while to get used to. Wayne Static's (Static-X) appearance in the track The Giveaway helped my transition from old Godhead to new Godhead. While their signature goth, industrial, whatever root sound is still present, the vocals and melodies are much more planned out and better presented than in previous recordings. The overall quality of the mixing and production are outstanding. I am quite pleased with Evolver and highly recommend it. Just be aware that it is no 2000 Years of Human Error.

This CD moved me. I put it in my discman and listened to it all the way through, and I can tell you that I went through different emotions while listening to this album. Its another excellent blend of metal, goth and industrial but this time it was a bit more guitar driven. This has become my favourite CD in my collection and I doubt this will leave my CD player for a long time. 5 Stars for gODHEAD. Excellent Album.

Their sound definately did Evolve,

From 2000 years to evolver, there sound went from a goth-industrial to more of a metal sound. I like it. They even had Wayne Static (From Static-X) in the song 'Giveaway', which is definately one of the standout tracks, along with 'Ghost of your memory' and 'The Hate in Me'. But those aren't the only good tracks, listen to this CD all the way through. You won't be dissapointed! 5 Stars!

Godhead Achieved,
By A Customer
This review is from: Evolver (Audio CD)
Slightly softer and more substance than "2000 Years of Human Error." Moving away from their original Marylin Manson/NIN sound to a more personable and unique style. Best tracks: Just Like You, Keep Me Down, Dream. Great sound, sharp and moving, yet soulful and contemplative. Expect greatness from Godhead and ye shall recieve.

I was really excited to take a listen to this album after 2000 years, but i have to say, the sound has really lost its edge. I can still enjoy this album playing in the background, but it is definately not one that i actually put on just to hear it. The songs on evolver are just way too bland.

Great Transition,
This review is from: Evolver (Audio CD)
Is this album softer than its three predecessors? Sure. But that does not make it any less compelling. Miller has always been an outstanding songwriter, and I'm glad he took the time to explore the quieter side of the industrial metal he so meticulously crafted over the band's first three efforts. Plus, it's not as if he completely forgot the electric guitars: he just wrote tracks that felt rather than raged. I care not for the haters here. This is a great disc and - to date - is the band's last terrific album.

My son wanted this CD for his birthday and I did not want to run around all over to try to find it, so on a suggestion from my other son - I tried this site. I was a little worried that I would not get the product I ordered but decided to give it a try. Happy to say, everything worked out great - got the cd and on time for his birthday!

gODHEAD rocks!,

This band has certainly evolved, and that's not necessarily a bad thing! The heavier, more industrial sound heard previously on albums such as "Power Tool Stigmata" and "2000 Years of Human Error" is not as prevalent in this release, but the influence of Marilyn Manson (Posthuman Records) and NIN is still noticeable to a certain degree. I have always thought of Godhead as being a very eclectic band, taking various elements and creating a unique style all their own. This album serves as further proof of that, as well as a testament to their outstanding musicianship. It would seem that Godhead was trying to make this particular album more accessible to a widespread audience, and they indeed accomplished their goal. The songs on this release seem more guitar-driven, giving the album more of a dark hard rock feel than their previous goth/industrial releases. However, their lyrics can still convey that hauntingly morbid sense of impending doom and devastation that is characteristically "goth." I love Jason Miller's clean vocals. He has a powerful voice that only serves to enhance the emotions the words alone don't always convey. Godhead's "Evolver" takes the listener on a trip through several various emotions. This is one of those CD's that you can put in your player any day, when in any kind of mood, and you can find a song that suits you perfectly. Here are some highlights on the album: Track 1 "The Hate in Me" - Great opening track! Excellent for when you've had a bad day. This song is very catchy, and has a danceable beat. Track 2 "Just Like You" - Another catchy, guitar-driven song. Awesome cynical lyrics. Track 5 "Far Too Long" - One of the more mellow songs on the album, but has great lyrics and a great guitar-driven chorus. Track 7 "Dream" - Great vocals and lyrics, with a very catchy chorus that easily gets stuck in your head for days. Track 9 "Ghost of Your Memory" - Slower song conveying a sense of deep loss. Really great guitar solo. Though I do miss their previous sound, change is inevitable and, frequently, worthwhile. If you are new to Godhead, this is a good place to start, as it is by far their most accessible album. Definitely pick up this CD! If you want something a little heavier on the goth/industrial side, then also try some of Godhead's previous efforts, "Power Tool Stigmata" and "2000 Years of Human Error." They are also amazing to see live! |
