Book Description

January 1, 1999
"Evolving Brief Therapies: In Honor of John H. Weakland" presents the thinking of some of the leading theorists and therapists in the field of brief therapy today, offering creative and effective brief therapy strategies.Concern about the fast pace of change in the psychotherapy marketplace is legitimate. These changes create a situation in which clinicians properly trained in brief therapy will be sought after like never before. In establishing the field of brief therapy over the past 40 years, Weakland and his colleagues demonstrated impressive vision and foresight. The chapters in this book represent an extension of their work.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Over the years, as schools of ideas and therapy passed by like schools of fish, one always questioned whether the new school was a contribution, a fashion, or a desperate, inappropriate attempt to save past theories. If I was in doubt about an endeavor, I could ask John Weakland. His judgement was sound on what was worthwile." -- Jay Haley

John Weakland was one of the most important founders of Communication Theory and a pioneer of brief therapy. This book, based on a conference in Weakland's honor, is a collection of outstanding papers written by leading brief therapists. The subject: effective and efficient treatment of a wide range of clinical difficulties. Anyone interested in learning more about haw to help people experiencing intransigent behavioral and emotional problems will enjoy and learn from this book.
