3.0 out of 5 stars Separates sometimes
My cat likes the tuna flavor laxatone better than the regular flavor, but she loves both and will eat both readily. The problem I have with the tuna flavor is that I occasionally get a tube that separates, even though it is still before the expiration date. This product is pretty much the same as other "felaxin" type products as far as one who is unwilling to actually TASTE it can tell. However, for a product like this for me, its all about the packaging. It's a good solid paste, easy to squeeze and the cat likes it well enough to eat it from my hands. The last 2 similar products I tried got runny after a few doses and made a general mess in the drawer where it is kept. ESPECIALLY, DO NOT buy the kind in the aluminum tube as the tube splits in different places and leaks out after you've squeezed a dose or two from it. This is a sturdy plastic tube that lasts throughout the life of the product and again, the cat happily licks it up!!! (PS - also, she DOES NOT THROW UP any more since I started using it and that's the BEST OF ALL)

The main reason I buy this is because Laxatone does not make my cat vomit. I have a black male Bombay so his hair is short, but this cat licks himself more than any cat I have ever owned. He loves Laxatone tuna. He licks it right off of my finger as if it were a treat. It softens his stool, but not to the point that it is runny. He was coughing some right before I purchased this. After about three treatments, one per day, he no longer coughs, so I suppose he passed the hair. Now I give him a dose three times per week. Again, the major benefit is that he loves the taste, so I do not have to wipe it on his face to get him to eat it. The Hartz brand that I got from WalMart made my cat vomit about 8 times overnight. I felt so bad because it was my fault. I will never use anything bu Laxatone tuna from now own. No regrets.

My cat likes the tuna flavor laxatone better than the regular flavor, but she loves both and will eat both readily. The problem I have with the tuna flavor is that I occasionally get a tube that separates, even though it is still before the expiration date. When you squeeze it out, some of it is clear and runny and then I will get some (from the same tube) that is semi opaque and pasty. She eats either one fine but I worry that it might not work if she doesn't get both. Squeezing the tube ends to mix it seems to help a little bit, but I usually can't get it all mixed and this happens every time I give it to her (again, only with some bottles). I have never had anything like this happen with the original flavor.

As to how well it works, both the tuna and original flavor seem to help reduce the size of the hairballs and in my younger cat, she is still throwing up about once every month or two, but the hair looks 'loose' not clumped up in a ball like it used to be. Both cats do still throw up hairballs occasionally so this isn't a cure in our case, but it definitely helps and I will continue to give it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A smooth laxative for cats that works, November 8, 2010

My cat is overweight, it's a breed thing, nothing you can really do about it. (British shorthairs all get fat when older). She gets in real constipation trouble frequently. We found that using Laxatone every day and changing her diet from dry to canned food helped quite a bit her constipation problems. Laxatone seems to be acceptable to cats, they don't reject it. Some cats even love it. Also, 1 cc. of Lactulose helps her by adding acidity and liquid to her colon, but we try to avoid these type of chemical medicines, so we used Lactulose very rarely on her.
When in a crisis, we have resolved with children supositories and children enemas, found at Amazon too.
Be very careful administering any chemical medicines to any cat.

My Maine Coon is a champion hairball regurgitator and I was accustomed to cleaning up after him several times a week. I received this product almost two weeks ago and I've only cleaned up one hairball during that time. Works for me.
