I bought this obscure-to-me brand (Ewave) instead of a better-known name because I liked the design. I am not sorry. If you need perfect toast, this does make one side just slightly more done than the other. I read reviews that most of the other brands at this price point do this too, so I went with style. It's a very minor thing to me, toast is quickly eaten, I don't spend much time admiring it. Foodies/chefs might want to go for a $100 toaster, but that's not my priority. (I do appreciate the culinary arts, no offense intended.)It seemed reasonable to test it without toast and, in fact, it needed 2 "run throughs" to burn out a "new car" (chemical) smell. It produced a small amount of smoke, and this all seems like quite normal, newly manufactured material behavior. Maybe they should do this part in the factory with each unit running about 3 minutes, then cooling before packing. We are smart consumers and can cope with this, right? After the short breaking-in, there has been no trace of odor or smoke. The brushed stainless finish is attractive, doesn't show smudges as much as polished stainless steel. It holds bagels, English muffins and thick breads. It will toast just one side or both sides, and has a "stop and pop-up-now" button. It has a removable bottom try for easy cleaning. Yep, it's a toaster. Fair value. I would update here if it has some problem down the line. If it had a retractable cord, that reeled-up into a storage compartment I'd give it 5 stars. The cords cutter counter space. If appliances could add this feature without significantly raising the prices, I think it would significantly increase value. I only saw one toaster with this feature, but couldn't find it again after reading many toaster reviews (Gosh, there are a lot of toasters to choose from!). The name (Ewave) also appeals to me better than many, as brand names go. I don't completely hate reading it in my kitchen, although I feel Brands/Logos should be hidden far more often than not.

I've been looking at toasters for a while and decided to bite the bullet on this one because the price was so low that even if we were unhappy with it, we'd only be out $30. Considering the next one we were considering was a $100 Cuisinart, it was well worth the risk.I couldn't be happier with this toaster. The family has been using it for weeks without a single problem. It feels very well built, and the stainless steel 'folds' and joints are cleaner than many of the $60+ toasters we looks at in stores. There are no sharp edges at all. The toasting isn't 100% even, but very few toasters are. The dial and buttons feel solid and the crumb tray works well. The packaging is excellent and the documentation is good. Amazing value for the price. Look no further if you are looking for a basic toaster. |
