ExLibris is a fascinating work of art. Gibson's sublime eye, previously dedicated to such wonderful subjects as the female form (see INFANTA or WOMEN) here turn to photographs of books, both ancient and modern. The photographs have almost a tactile, three dimensional feel... Gibson captures a hand touching an ancient copy of the Koran and you can literally feel the connection through time. Pages juxtapose images of faces and pages... Sculptures, coins, cybercafes, the Internet, strange faces, hieroglyphics, all find a way into this mysterious book. The only thing that might have been nice is some words of explanation regarding the subject of the photos (there is a very brief description of sources and images). This book will fascinate any bibliophile as well as lovers of fine photography.

these books by Gibson are great liberators for all photographers.

I found L'Histoire de France a revelation and a model and a door to perceptions

This present work focusses on the printed word and various para-printed artifacts

AS always it pushes beyond the limit of exposure and composition to show us great art.

The ex-public library edition I received of course had its spine broken open at the usual Gibson extraordinary female portrait, musing over an open text, but what I find unclosable is his out of focus image of the famous early photo of Sainte Bernadette Soubirous, which I once kept over my desk in a monastic cell in France back in the mid seventies.

I am so very grateful to find myself under her wise and steady gaze once more.

Gibson is genius which all photographers must study carefully, and well rewarded.
