Smart, funny humor by lesbians and gay men, August 30, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Ex-Lover Weird Shit: A Collection of Short Fiction, Poetry, & Cartoons by Lesbians & Gay Men (Paperback)
Debra Waugh had a vision -- a collection of frank, heartfelt misery called "Ex-Lover Weird Shit." The book had to include writing by both lesbians and gay men. The title was set. She got the writing and cartoons, then did a superb job of choosing and editing, but no publisher would turn the collection into a book. Why, you couldn't have gay men and lesbians in the same book! -- no one would buy it. And the title had to go. How about "Ex-Lover Weird Stuff?" Shaking her head at the world's weird prejudices, Waugh formed her own publishing company, Two Out of Three Sisters Press (TOOTS), and produced a marvel. If a lover has ever broken up with you, buy this book. Never mind your sexual preference. For some kinds of pain, laughter -- especially combined with plain clear good writing -- is the only drug that works. Not for nothing did one of Waugh's ex-lovers remark on the back cover, "I don't think this book is very funny."
