I love this hat.

It's comfy, and seems to do a good job of keeping the mosquitoes and sun away from your head and neck.

So maybe I look good with a bucket on my head, as another reviewer described the ExOfficio Adventure Hat. Or I don't look at a mirror when I'm wearing it. Truth is, I really like this hat and its deconstructed style. Small / medium fit well (although blown off by a gust, and promptly recovered, because I forgot to tuck the strap under my chin) and the brim is wide enough to do its job keeping the sun from my face, ears and neck. By the way, the brim has a "brim-stay", some sort of thin, semi-rigid tubing within, that makes it stay in place if you turn it up -- pretty handy when you want to get it out of the way to use a viewfinder camera, for instance, or just wear it with some panache. And, as with other ExOfficio Insect Shield products (their efficiency has definitely won me over), it really keeps the bugs at bay.

Another positive aspect of this hat is that it packs small: fold it, scrunch it up, lay it flat, roll it into a little ball, it takes up no space. And when you take it out of your bag it doesn't look as if it had just been stampeded by a herd of elephants.

All in all, a very well designed, practical and useful product.

You're not gonna win a beauty contest in this one, let me tell you. There is virtually no construction in the brim, so it is not possible to shape it, turn it up in front or at the sides, or essentially do anything but stick a bucket on your head. If you look good in buckets, there you go...

On the other hand, when I wore it down to a dock to go fishing, it felt like maybe fewer biting flies got me. Who needs to look flattering while fishing anyway? The choice is yours.

Did I say it was ugly?
