Product Description

Making your own compost starts in the kitchen by collecting all your organic waste and adding it to your outdoor composter. As much as 30% of household waste can be composted and should not be sent to a landfill. Composting is the answer and using the Kitchen Compost Collector is a most practical way to collect all of your organic waste. This kitchen waste collector is made from high density polyethylene and includes a carbon filter that significantly reduces any organic smells. Convenient handle lets you carry waste directly to outside composter and is dishwasher safe. For best results use only ECO 2500 replacement filters (3.5" x 3.5") only shipped and sold by Amazon. Please note: Packaging may contain special spacers (in the shape of a "house") used to separate multiple units, these should be recycled as it holds no further use to the ECO 2000 Composter Bin.

Customer Reviews

The lid seals well and the filter works to keep smells out.

SIZE: The size is perfect, not to large or small, fits great underneath the kitchen sink or easily on the counter when cooking/prepping for a meal.
Courtney
We did not run into the fruit fly problems and ours closed well.

I was very happy with the compost pail when I first got it. It was large, just right for the countertop. It was easy to clean. The handle could be used to hold the lid up during meal prep when you sometimes don't have two hands to open the lid. After about two weeks, a crack developed in the bottom along one of the diagonal ridges that are on the bottom of the pail. The pail was not abused in any way. It seemed a bit premature to have the pail crack so soon. A crack on the bottom is the worst place because then it leaks all over the counter. I will attempt to write to the manufacturer and ask for a replacement. I will report back on the results.
FOLLOW-UP: I called Amazon and they were willing to send out a replacement. It seemed silly to have to return the old one but I did as the customer representative asked. I changed my rating from 3 to 4 stars because I was happy with Amazon's service.

I'm very happy with this compost pail. It's big enough that I don't need to empty it more than once a week (we're a family of 4, mostly vegetarians). It seems very sturdy. The filter is working great, I've never smelled anything. I haven't seen a single fruit fly either.

I ordered two of these and they are everything I dreamed they would be: large capacity, latching (yet easy to open) lid with carbon filter, and simple to use. Gone are the days of having bowls of scraps sitting around the kitchen and shouting across the room "Don't put that in there, that's for the worms!" We do both worm composting and garden composting, so I just took a Sharpie to our new bins and labeled them "Worms" and "Not Worms."

Although I hate plastic I took the review to heart that said they'd tried ceramic and glass containers and they strongly recommended plastic.

In case you are wondering yes, these are sized so that a standard grocery bag fits nicely. Reuse, then recycle!

Gnats are gone, stink is gone, mess is gone. A++ Exaco Trading, great product.

My family generates a lot of fruit & vegetable scraps, particularly on the weekends when we do the bulk of our cooking for the week. I was looking for something that had a large capacity so I wasn't making a daily run to the compost pile in the back of my yard. While its capacity is certainly larger, after 3-4 days, we had not only fruit flies, but fruit fly larvae coming out around the filter - ick. We'll probably still use it, but basically just as a larger scrap bucket. I guess my daily pilgrimage to the compost pile is still on...

The lid broke at the hinge after a couple of months. I didn't have a smell problem and was not planning on purchasing filters, but they are a requirement, not an option because they cover holes on top of the container. The filters start to grow mold after a while if not changed. Looking for a replacement compost collector. Wasn't worth the $20.

I was disappointed when this product arrived. It is made from a thin plastic and seems as though it will crack or break easily. There is an option to hang the product, yet it doesn't come with mounting screws. Also, it arrived dirty. It was coated in some sort of oily, black dust. If you can find it for $8-10 I'd say, go for it; otherwise, I'd at least look a little harder for something else.

The bin has a poor seal and allows odors to escape easily. Within days, there were maggots in the filter. Had to throw it away as cleaning and returning it would have been too time-consuming.
