This book gives you a real sense of the way the world of exalted is put together. This has proven to be amazingly usefull even in my plain vanilla solar campaign.
The only drawback was the merit/flaws system which IMHO is a bit unbalanced. but can easily be discarded. I would strongly suggest reading this book even if you choose not to employ any of it's game mechanics aspect. (merits & flaws for example.) In short, a great book.

The scroll of heroes offers long time fans of the Exalted game line (myself most emphatically included) a new and fresh look at the game from the eyes of purely mortal protagonists. It has piles of new rules, including merits and flaws, and a section for god-blooded and half castes, that are also a welcome addition to any game of Exalted. This book is best supplemented with the third book of sorcery (for mortal thaumaturges), the first book of sorcery for magitech (including ashigaru and gunzosha armor) the core book (of course) and any of the manuals of exalted power for the half-castes.

Nice ideas, horrifying execution,

I really want to like this book, I've long felt that playing a Mortal in Exalted should've got more attention much sooner... but the merits and flaws are dreadful, there's places in this where first edition material is referred to as though it's still relevant.
There's some good stuff here, don't get me wrong.. the Storytelling section is one of the best. Other parts of this book don't live up to their potential though.
