5.0 out of 5 stars An "Incredible" Praise Offering, October 28, 2007

Kevin L. Betton Jr. "Total Praise Choir Master" (Carlisle, PA - Yeah I never heard of it either!) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Exalted (Audio CD)
This CD is a ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE for all gospel music lovers. JJ Hairston and Youthful Praise have produced another album filled with a multitude of uplifting worship. This album is worth every penny, gospel choirs all over the world are soon to be singing the majority of the songs in this album.

From start to finish EVERY SONG is worth 4-5 stars. (Although I wasn't feeling "Spirit Of God," it sounded like they couldn't figure out whether it was supposed to be a fast or slow song) I'm looking at the CD now trying to pick 2-3 songs that standout, when there are literally like "11." I had the honor to be at the Live Recording, GET THE DVD AS WELL. So much went on at the end you don't wanna miss. YP's former director Pastor Shawn Brown was there and directed "Awesome God," it was a must see.

The guest artist were slamming too! YOU MUST HEAR Judy McAllister on "Glory And Honor," and Bishop T.D. Jakes P&W Leader Steve Lawrence teamed up with Timiney Figeroa-Caton on "I Will Give You Praise." Pastor Jason Nelson added his vocals to "Everything Is Changed." I have Ricky Dillard's & James Hall's and they're both great - but this is BY FAR THE BEST CHOIR CD OF THE YEAR. YP got robbed by Donald Lawrence for Choir of the year last time, this album will make sure it's a landslide in their favor!!

You can feel the personal nature of these songs which were obviously written as personal testimonies. I especially enjoyed the words to "Jesus Reigns," exceptionally well written. And the remake of the Twila Paris hit "He Is Exalted," is one of my personal favorites on the album. The album just flows from beginning to end, you can pop in the CD and just let it play and it feels like the songs get better and better. Tremendous props to JJ & YP on another superb album!

5.0 out of 5 stars Listening to previews, May 24, 2008

I'm actually excited about this CD from listening to the previews. I'm feeling the CD already, I don't even have it. Only Donnie McClurkin CDs have given me that annointed feeling from previews, amazing. Youthful Praise is quickly becoming one of my favorites.

This CD is phenomenal. It's breathtaking and it's transforming. Although Youthful Praise's most recent CD with Incredible God, Incredible Praise was incredible, this CD takes it to another level of deep praise & worship. The uptempos minister to the spirit, and the slow songs get one into God's holy, majestic presence. It's indescribable how good this CD is. It's a must-have for anyone looking for music to minister to him/her. While the whole CD is excellent, a few standout tracks include
Jesus Reigns--a strong uptempo that simply exalts our great God

Glory and Honor--a P&W song for any church led by powerful worship leader Judith McAllister

He Is Exalted/Give You Praise--This is the Incredible God, Incredible Praise of this song, and it truly is a song that gets me into God's presence. It's wonderful.

Everything Is Changed--A prophetic message from God about everything being changed whether we see the physicality of that change or not, spiritually, it's changed.

I Will Give You the Praise--This song is awesome. True praise.

4.0 out of 5 stars Exalted is well done, January 10, 2008
This review is from: Exalted (Audio CD)
I am really enjoying "Exalted" from JJ and Youthful Praise. I like the whole album, but my favorites include: "Jesus Reigns," "Glory and Honor," "He Is Exalted/Give You Praise," "Great is the Lord," "Everything is Changed" (really love it), "You Are," "Spirit of God," "Wonderful God," and "We Worship You." "Sincerity" had to grow on me, though; it's OK. Steve Lawrence's voice is a little annoying and nasally on "I Will Give You the Praise."

"Jesus Reigns" proclaims that Jesus reigns over all the earth, and No one can kill Him/ No one can beat Him/ No one can dethrone him/ He reigns. "Glory and Honor" featuring Judith McAllister is easy and can be learned by a congregration in no time. The song makes you nod your head, and rock your body as if you were singing "Awesome God." I also enjoy JJ's arrangement of "Exalted." Written by Twila Paris, "Exalted" is also featured on Darwin Hobb's "Worshipper."

I really like the sound on "Great is the Lord;" the choir sounds as if they are far away from the mics, kind of like in a cave or something. "Everything is Changed" declares that "No lack is in my life/ Full healing's in my life/ Everything's restored/ Everything's restored/ All of my past is gone/ All hurt and pain is gone/ Everything is changed for me. I think it's very mellow, but in a good way. On "Spirit of God" I like the drummer's tempo change. I'm not sure if it's really a tempo change, but he doesn't stick to a simple beat.

Pet peeves
1.) The tracks are numbered wrong on the back of the case.

2.) Some songs do not have "Featuring _______" (the artist's name). I thought I read somewhere that Myron Williams is the soloist for "Everything is Changed," but the soloist is Jason Nelson. Anaysha Figuerroa is the soloist for "Spirit of God." Although Anaysha sang on the reprise of "Shift This Place" from the last album, it took me a minute to figure out that she is on "Exalted." Anaysha's sound is quite different. Of course the songs are different too, so that may have been a factor.

3.) I agree that overdubs are normal, but why so many vocal overdubs? The liner notes reads: Choir Overdubs, Additional Choir Overdubs, and All Studio BGV's. Actually it reads BVG's, but David Caton and CMG recorded them. Was the live recording really bad? I also agree that veteran artists' should provide opportunities to up and coming artists because someone did the same for them (the veteran). So, I'm not knocking all the overdubs, it just makes me wonder.

I'm looking forward to more from JJ and YP.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful, December 7, 2007
This review is from: Exalted (Audio CD)
From start to finish, this CD has been well put together. The music is refreshing, uplifting, biblical, spiritual, and dynamic. The lead vocalists do great jobs in testimony, praise, and worship. This CD is well detailed in every aspect. If you don't have it find it, buy it, and play it at a time when you can really experience the Lord without distraction. This CD is a powerful expression of praise and worship from young people. We can never get to old for this Youthful Praise and Worship experience so excellently displayed on this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME, November 6, 2007
This review is from: Exalted (Audio CD)
This album is a must have! For all those looking for a fresh word and a new song listen to this album. I do believe that before any gospel artist comes out with another project they should really pray and ask God what to sing. Youthful Praise, I believe has done that, and really saught the face of God to touch his people. What an amazing album! Jesus Reigns to Glory and Honor, those are the only songs I need to listen to....oo lets not forget No Lack, I think that's what its called...man God has truly blessed this choir and the director. Evang. Judith McCallister and Jason Nelson, Timinary Figueroa, so many have helped with the power of this album. All of you out there this is a keeper.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Exalted!, November 4, 2007
This review is from: Exalted (Audio CD)
From the Prelude of "Sincere"... to the closing of "We Worship You" This CD will catapult you into the essence of Praise and Worship. Adding the Assistance of Evangelist Judith Christie-McAllister, Steve Lawrence (Of the Potter's House, Dallas, TX), Jason Nelson, and even more... you are sure to play this for awhile without changing CD's.

Jesus Reigns, Glory & Honor, Sincere, We Worship You, have me repeating them in my car, but the whole CD is truly AMAZING! If you don't have let me encourage you to buy it!
