Must have book for taking the 7,
This review is from: Series 7 Exam For Dummies (Paperback)
Don't get this book for use as your single source of study. For that matter, don't use any one book as your single source to prepare for this exhaustive exam. But do get this book to help you get an understanding of the concepts and build a basis for your studying. The book approaches all of the main topics of study in such a common sense and easy to understand way. I would and have recommended this book to everyone I know taking this exam. Okay, my recommendation is meaningless without results right? Well I took the exam just this morning for the first time ever and scored an 80. This book was a big part of that outcome. The exam on the CD is a bit easier than others but mirrored the actual exam and my score very closely.

Series 7 timeline,

This review is from: Series 7 Exam For Dummies (Paperback)
I just passed my Series 7 exam a few days ago, and it sure does feel good to have that behind me! I'll try and provide an accurate time line along with any details I can remember:
I started studying in late June. I bought this Dummies book, Pass the 7, and attended a Kaplan week-long class 10 days before the test. I think the Dummies book is a good start, but definitely not the end! I would recommend starting with that book because it is an easy read (I read it in two days!) Then I read the Pass the 7 book, which is a little deeper and much longer. These two books together work great! I then took the Kaplan course which helped me a bit more. I think I was definitely the most prepared coming into and going out of the class. Probably the BEST thing I got was a Kaplan CD FULL of questions. I probably took 15-20, 125 question tests in 10 days. This is what sealed the deal for me. I was getting anywhere between 72-76% consistently, which left me a little worried because most people say you should be getting 80-85%. Then came test day: I did very, very light studying on test day. I figured I wouldn't learn anything in the last hour I hadn't been able to figure out in the last 6-8 weeks. I got into the test and finished the first half at about my normal practice test speed: 50 minutes. I took the required 30 minute break plus a small 5 minute break right before that (oops!) I got back into the test after the break and continued at my usual pace. I felt pretty calm the entire time. Until the final button had to be pressed: Are you sure you are finished? 'Yes.' I had put in earplugs because the girl next to me was taking the GMAT, I think, which requires typing. My heart was racing. You know when a cop pulls up behind and turns on the lights to pull you over? This was at least twice as intense waiting for the score! Well, it turns out I got an 86%! Wow! I was so surprised!

Well Thought Out,
By G. Johnson "Stock and Bond Guy" (Orlando, FL) - See all my reviews

This book gives you information that a lot of other books don't. The study techniques were great as well as what you can expect on the test day. The option's section was excellent! I was having a lot of problems with options before I learned the Dummies way. The book was was written in very simple terms. Great buy for anyone taking the Series 7.

Freakin' Fantastic,
By L. Fisher (IL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Series 7 Exam For Dummies (Paperback)
I loved this book. The Series 7 information is presented in such a straightforward way, that I can't imagine anyone not passing. I just took the 7 a couple of days ago and got an 87. Prior to picking up this book, I hadn't scored higher than a 74 on any of the practice exams that I had taken. The "Cheat Sheet" was full of formulas and the options chapter was great. Get this book, you'll be very happy you did.

Outstanding Book,
By Cat Gal (Cary, NC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Series 7 Exam For Dummies (Paperback)
Although this book isn't meant to be a standalone book, I don't think you should attempt to take the real exam without it. The book is full of valuable information on ripping apart questions, study skills, and also the most important information on the Series 7. This book is not only full of questions, it also comes with a CD, which simulates the real Series 7 exam. I'm very happy with my investment.

Excellent Help,
By C. Davis "Music Reviewer" (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Series 7 Exam For Dummies (Paperback)
This book is fantastically written just like all the "Dummies" books. I initially studied out of the Kaplan book (which I paid $250 for) and found it very difficult to understand. The Series 7 Exam for Dummies book cleared up a lot of information that I was having trouble with. I thought that the test taking tips, study habit techniques, option charts, and exams were all excellent. I passed with the highest grade out of my group and I couldn't have done it without this book.
Great Buy

This is an excellent book, written in a clear & concise manner. Thank God the author breaks everything down for you and thank God he recommends study materials that you should be using in conjunction with his book. I hadn't a clue as to how to approach preparing for this exam. Now, I feel I'll be not only be ready, but I'll have an excellent chance of acing the 7. This book is a must-have for anyone studying for the Series 7 exam!!!

A Marvelous Book and CD,
By R. Digirolamo "Deej" (Boston) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Series 7 Exam For Dummies (Paperback)
Thank heaven for this book. I had previously failed the Series 7 with a 64 and I wasn't making any progress. I was studying out of a Passtrak book given to me by my firm. Not only did the Series 7 Exam for Dummies make everything easy to understand, it has test questions that are the closest to the real exam that I have seen (and I've seen a lot of them). Needless to say, I passed a couple of days ago with an 82. There is no way I would have been able to do it without this book. Save yourself a lot of time and aggravation by buying this book.

This book is an excellent tool to help you pass the Series 7. I still have another week before I can take the exam, but I know that I am ready now. The "options" chapter in the book is simply outstanding. I will never get another options question wrong again. I can't wait to take the exam now.

Not comprehensive,

This review is from: Series 7 Exam For Dummies (Paperback)
The book is well-written and is nicely edited, but it does not have all the information that you need for the test. The author is nice enough to list all the things that you SHOULD know, but does not cover all them.
This book should be used as supplementary only. The practice tests are useful, but I would advise you not to spend time reading the content, as you are guaranteed to have to read another book in addition. |
