This review is from: Examine Doctors (Audio CD)
Subtler than the Broadway album ("An Evening with ...") and funnier than "Improvisations to Music", this one takes a few listens to appreciate. Strangely enough, I think that the most hilarious thing on this CD is "Nichols and May at Work", which is a studio session done by the duo that gives you insight on how these sketches are constructed. Recommended for fans and those in the medical profession.

This is the seminal piece from which good modern comedy emanates. These two are the foundation stock. It doesn't get any better than this.

This review is from: Mike Nichols And Elaine May Examine Doctors (MP3 Download)
My first connection with this duo was when I was a kid with the LP album "An Evening With Mike Nichols And Elaine May." My second connection was on the alternative radio station playing Nurse With Wound cut ups on "The Ladies Home Tickler." This album is extremely psychedelic, as all of Stephen Stapleton's works. And the nerve to label the two songs as "Registered Nurse Second Coming" and "Duelling Banjoes" is pure art. I thought that the cut ups that Stapleton used sounded familiar! So here it is years later and I discover where Stapleton got his quips and quotes to masterfully butcher up into a mind explosion. The duo examining doctors is more subtle comedy than outright. And if you heard the quotes on Nurse With Wound's album, you will finally hear these quotes in context! A fun album! "Well, have you been doing what I reccomended? Yes! I've given him an auful lot of asprin! That's a long time!"
