5.0 out of 5 stars Truly perfect, January 24, 2010

This review is from: Excalibur® Phoenix Crossbow (Misc.)
I chose to buy this crossbow after weeks of deliberation and comparisons. After three weeks, I'm very happy with my choice.

First of all, the product description is misleading. There is nothing "budget" or "beginner" about this crossbow. Quality is outstanding - I literally can't find a flaw with it. It's true that the Excalibur company makes a couple of more powerful models (i.e. Exocet, Equinox, Vortex). But you only need those if you are hunting for Bull Moose or Grizzly Bear! If you are hunting deer, elk, or anything thereabouts, this crossbow has more than enough power. It's a good trade-off because it has all the power you need, plus it's not as difficult to cock as the larger models, and the string lasts longer. This is especially important if you plan to do a lot of target shooting. The Ibex model has identical stats, but with a thumbhole in the stock and a different camo pattern. It's also more expensive.

The bow is far lighter than a rifle - it also feels very good in the hand. The whole thing feels very well-made and solidly built.

After assembly, I was firing bulls-eyes at 20 yards right off the bat. This is not a toy - it's deadly accurate and will shoot arrows right through you if you are not careful. For comparison, I tried stabbing my target with crossbow arrows and compared it to the ones I shot. By hand, I could only get half as deep as the Phoenix did, and I'm a fairly big guy too.

One more thing - this is an awfully nice-looking weapon, and would look great on your wall. The camo pattern on this crossbow is gorgeous. See it in real life if you can. Pics don't do it justice. Highly recommended.
