We bought this set for my 8 year old son--I know he's younger then the recommended age, but he loves chess. He has really enjoyed this set. Having the magnetized pieces is great and we love the storage place (it is very small though) in the back of the board to keep everything together. He enjoys playing against the computer too.

Our daughter fell in love with online chess and began teaching herself the game, so when she saw this item in one of those upscale catalogs she decided she wanted one for her birthday or Christmas. Guess what, I found it for $40 cheaper here on Amazon then the upscale seller where she saw it advertised.

A good way to enhance and engage problem-solving and analytical skills.

This game is fun and a little bit addicting and educational for learning chess/checkers. You really have to read the instruction booklet and even after that it can be hard but after a while it gets easier

Purchased this chess set for grandson for Christmas - 8 years old - who is on his elementary schools chess team. Not a novice player - he's very good. He had always lamented that he had no one to play with at home, and so we purchased this set. Not only does he love it, but with the numerous levels he can progress at his own pace by advancing to more challenging levels. Easy to set up and travels well - with the magnetic pieces he can even play in the car. Only complaint we've heard is that his Parents can't get him to stop playing!

I purchased this for my 7 year old chess enthusiast son and now I really like playing the checkers game. The digital screen works well, it is very easy to maneuver the pieces, the magnetic board holds the pieces on, even at a slight tilt. The chess game is liked by my son as well, but given his age he prefers someone to sit with him while he does it despite the fact that he is playing against the board. We haven't used it for very long but so far we have not run into any glitches. My only criticism is the back slot to hold the pieces inside of the board is too tight. Other than that this is an awesome kids electronic chess set that keeps his attention and challenges him.
