I like the puzzles, but seeing them is difficult at best. You have to have it at exactly the right angle in exactly the right light. You get what you pay for, I guess.
I ended up buying a Nintendo DS Lite with the "NY Times Crossword Puzzles" game and am much happier. It was a lot more expensive, but I can add other games ("Solitaire Overload" is great, for example) and it's much nicer to use.

I really enjoyed this machine, until about the 5th time I turned it on - characters started dropping off of the screen. Before long entire rows were missing characters. I assumed I got a bad one, so I bought another of the same - it was cheap enough, right? Bad Idea! Exactly the same thing happened to the second one I bought. They are both in the landfill, now, may the God of electronics rest their little souls. I love crosswords, though, and I was not to be deterred, so I bought the Sharper Image Crossword Puzzle Deluxe Edition with Touch-Screen (about $40) and I could not be happier - I should have done this in the first place - I would have saved myself $40 in broken, useless machines!!! If you love doing the NY Times crossword and want a nice machine that will last a good long time, Buy the Sharper Image version (available here at Amazon!) - It has a nice leather zip-up cover, a stylus for the screen, and a back-light, so you can play in the dark!

Bought this for my mother's 89th birthday because she loves crossword puzzles. But even I (her daughter) had trouble seeing the screen and following the instructions. Way too complicated for her and me!
