I really enjoyed this machine, until about the 5th time I turned it on - characters started dropping off of the screen. Before long entire rows were missing characters. I assumed I got a bad one, so I bought another of the same - it was cheap enough, right? Bad Idea! Exactly the same thing happened to the second one I bought. They are both in the landfill, now, may the God of electronics rest their little souls. I love crosswords, though, and I was not to be deterred, so I bought the Sharper Image Crossword Puzzle Deluxe Edition with Touch-Screen (about $40) and I could not be happier - I should have done this in the first place - I would have saved myself $40 in broken, useless machines!!! If you love doing the NY Times crossword and want a nice machine that will last a good long time, Buy the Sharper Image version (available here at Amazon!) - It has a nice leather zip-up cover, a stylus for the screen, and a back-light, so you can play in the dark!

I like the puzzles, but seeing them is difficult at best. You have to have it at exactly the right angle in exactly the right light. You get what you pay for, I guess.

I ended up buying a Nintendo DS Lite with the "NY Times Crossword Puzzles" game and am much happier. It was a lot more expensive, but I can add other games ("Solitaire Overload" is great, for example) and it's much nicer to use.

I bought the Excalibur New York Time crossword puzzle game to replace a previous one that i had lost. The first one worked fine. The latest one stopped working after a few days. At first, lines started blanking out, then eventually the whole screen went blank. Don't think I will buy another one.

Bought this for my mother's 89th birthday because she loves crossword puzzles. But even I (her daughter) had trouble seeing the screen and following the instructions. Way too complicated for her and me!

This game is challenging and great for thinking exercises. However after purchasing two of them I have discovered a screen defect that blanks out part of the letters after awhile. Once that happens the game is useless. It was too expensive to replace a third time. My first one was purchased at Radio Shack for about $20.00. Its back to the paper crosswords for me. I live on a fixed income and it got to expensive to purchase, especially since they both developed the same problem after a year or so.

I had an earlier version of this device and played through it. This latest version is terrific and I'm really enjoying it.

I bought this product for my boyfriend who is a crossword puzzle fanatic. He likes the toy, but I think he still prefers the old-fashioned way using a pen on a newspaper puzzle. Overall, I would recommend this product and the price was great.

Purchased as a present for my husband as a replacement. Couldn't find in any local stores and found several options online. This one has additional features not included in older model he used and he seems pleased with it's performance. It's great to take traveling!
