Editorial Reviews

In 2011 with the release of his debut, self titled album, The Haxan Cloak, solo project of multi instrumentalist, Bobby Krlic, appeared seemingly out of nowhere with an impressively fully formed sound that blew away most anyone who heard it. Recorded over the space of 3 years The Haxan Cloak was a wildly ambitious fusion of malevolent strings, junkyard found-sounds and primitive percussion. In the two years after the release of his debut, Krlic relocated to London and began working on it's epic follow up, and Tri Angle Records debut; Excavation.

i am generally skeptical about any music that pitchfork reviews with high honors, but i agree this time. its better than what scorn turned into and its more accessible to people who want to get into the genre without being trite. so buy it

Holy crap! Never bought anything like it in my life... it's FANTASTIC! Super dark, but super good. Listen through a good system! Listening to it through my HS-80M studio monitors is perfection!

An odd album to think about in the Spring/ Summr/ growing/ Sun season - this surface/obviously (that is to say, what is obvious) is a Fall/ Winter/ dormant/ dead/ nighttime/ moon/ etc/ sounding record. So... a good contrast for 80, 90, 100 degrees, cheerful rain, grass and crops coming up, I guess (here in North Central Kansas July 2013 the cracks in the e/Earth are so big I worry about my dog falling down there and getting stuck, so at night, when the stars are out, and the wind is rushing, and the day's heat refuses to leave and continues to stifle, and I want to get freaked out I guess I could play this). I GUESS A LOT OF THE SOUNDS YOU CANNOT HEAR UNLESS YOU HAVE AN AWESOME SOUNDSYSTEM so find an audiophile friend. Very organic, moody, powerful, all-encompassing...

This is not the record you listen to and expect to dance, tap your foot, nod your head or sing along to. This is the record you listen to with an open mind and a willingness to travel to a place you did not know existed inside of yourself. This album is truly a piece of art. It is well produced and well crafted from start to finish and never gets boring. I absolutely love this record for it's artistic merit alone and willingness to challenge the listener. .

no words are more than enough to explain this piece of art. just give it a listen with a good sound system.
