Not a bad set of hobby knives.
The blades are of good quality, razor sharp, and of sufficient thickness not to bend or break under pressure.
You don't actually get 13 different blades. While there are 13 blades overall, there are a few copies. There are three #11 blades, one on the smallest aluminum handle, and two copies. There are two #2 blades, one on the large aluminum handle, and one copy. Still, with 10 different blades, you have all you need for basic carving and cutting.

The handles hold the blades very securely, and blades are easily swapped in and out. The knurling (rough diamond cut) on the ends of the handles is deep enough to really provide a good grip so your fingers won't slip on to the blade. Unfortunately, the knurling in the middle of the two all-aluminum handles is rather shallow, and does not provide as secure a grip. This isn't too much of a problem for me, as I tend to grip the knives close to the blade to provide for better control during cutting.

The large red handle is hollow (unlike the solid handle X-Acto used to use, years ago), making a little lighter than I would like, but the aluminum post is seated very securely in the plastic handle, after some heavy use, I see no signs of the handle breaking or becoming loose. If you're looking for a sturdier handle for heavy cutting you could move up to the Craftsman Set.The large handle in that set is solid aluminum.

You can use either Excel or X-Acto blades in the handles.

The box is not actually particle board. It is balsa wood (light and soft) with a cheap wood veneer glued to the top and bottom.

I bought this exact set at a yard sale. The box is nice, the set has many different tool options, and I love the magnetic strip that keeps all the poky bits in order. The grip is wonderful. I see no cons. with this product. If need be, I would buy another one in the future. :)

Like the Xacto set, the box is complete ****, though it functions well, which is to keep all the tools in one place, but expect no piece of art, the wood is cheap and light, and they paste a particle board with a wood imprint printed on the top for the top and bottom shell. Has metal latch to keep lid closed. Shoddy, but function wise, it works.

The knives Itself are great, 3 handles, your regular xacto sized handle, size of a pencil, then your larger one, size of a sharpie, then the heavy duty one with a plastic "screwdriver" handle for heavy cutting work. All high quality aluminum tools. Comes with 13 different blades; 3 on the handles already on the bottom, and the rest of the 10 blades are on the top lid separated by a piece of foam. Here is the only pro about the box, all the blades are help by a magnetic strip glued onto the top lid and a tray to keep them organized, genius.

With the 3 handles and 13 blades, you're pretty much set for any hobby or light cutting work such as puzzle cutting, working with plastic models or figures. Even works with cardboard and really light wood pieces. Tip: with wood pieces, soak wood with denatured alcohol to soften, the alcohol will dry up later leaving no residue.

Very similar to the Xacto hobby kit, but the best thing about Excel, the blades and handles are all made in the USA. (not sure about the box)

With the large assortment of blades and handles to cover pretty much any hobby task, I'd say this kit is definitely worth it, even the box, though not pretty functions very well.
