A step-by-step guide for calculating the most common statistical procedures in user research using Excel or R. With 100 examples pulled from Quantifying the User Experience (Morgan-Kaufmann) we provide the reader with the right methods for comparing means and proportions, generating confidence intervals, finding the right sample size as well as many statistical procedures not available in common statistical packages. The procedures are relevant for small and large sample sizes.

"Quantifying the User Experience" is now my go-to quantitative UX research methods book. This companion book has helped me apply the knowledge communicated in the original book efficiently with examples and problems that have (so far) matched my real-world consulting projects well. The book is also very useful as a guide for explaining statistical outcomes correctly. Note that to use the book to its full extent, you must either purchase an Excel calculator package from Jeff Sauro's website (certainly worth it if you are doing a lot of quantitative UX work) or use the "R" open source statistical software along with a free R custom function file downloadable from Jim Lewis's website. The book tells you how to obtain both tools, and solutions to each example are presented using both the Excel-based calculator workbook and R software.
