5.0 out of 5 stars Really Helps at Work
I have to create a lot of Excel spreadsheets at work, and was always sort of intimidated by the functions in Excel. Instead of using functions, I spent a lot of time entering numbers and then finding the answer by hand, and just typing the answer in an empty cell. If any of the data changed, I would have to do all of the calculations over again, and hope that I didn't...

3.0 out of 5 stars Excel Formula and Functions book
This book does not give me the simple functions in a readable way like most of the books I have had from the "Dummies" group. I probably did myself in, however, by not understanding it better. I once had Excel for Dummies and it was a wonderful book and I may just have to order that. I used to work with Excel a lot and I inentionally forgot it when I retired. I am...

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Helps at Work, April 12, 2005

I have to create a lot of Excel spreadsheets at work, and was always sort of intimidated by the functions in Excel. Instead of using functions, I spent a lot of time entering numbers and then finding the answer by hand, and just typing the answer in an empty cell. If any of the data changed, I would have to do all of the calculations over again, and hope that I didn't make any mistakes. This book explains each of the Excel functions in a really clear and easy to understand way, and walks you through how to use them step by step. I'm using more and more functions in my spreadsheets now. I don't have as many mistakes as before, because the functions do the calculations automatically, even when you change some of the data. I keep this book in my desk and look at it all the time. The people I work for have noticed the difference in the quality of my spreadsheets, and I'm getting a lot of complements. They're even coming to me to ask for advice! I definitely recommend this book if you use Excel at work.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Really Helpful Book, March 30, 2005
This review is from: Excel Formulas and Functions For Dummies (Paperback)
I always found it hard to understand how functions work. It's one thing to use the autosum button to add some numbers together. It's another thing to use functions and know which one to use. But now this Excel book has come to my rescue. The book is well designed by explaining the basics first. Then the book is organized by categories of functions. I recommend it highly!

5.0 out of 5 stars I finally understand!, February 24, 2005
This review is from: Excel Formulas and Functions For Dummies (Paperback)
I've been using excel for a year or so but was always afraid to try formulas aside from really simple ones. I was also nervous about the functions because I wasn't sure what they did. This book has been a huge help. It makes things really clear. It explains all the details so I feel I have a real grasp of the topic.

This has been very helpful. If you are a beginner to intermediate at Excel formulas this will be a very good book for you. I got it for work and have been able to get moving rapidly with more complex worksheets.

This book is for someone who already know the basics. It's not for beginners. It's also a great reference guide if you have forgotten how to do something. I rented a few books from the library (this one was not available) but none of them delved into the "and" "if" & "vlookup" features very well.

I use MS Excel everyday, but create new workbooks much less often. This book has been invaluable in refreshing my mind with detailed definitions in an easy to understand format, as well as a complete list of formulas and functions available to me. Now I won't let the book out of my sight.
