I am semi new to VBA. I have some basic experience with languages such as php and javascript. I purchased this book after buying a "begginning VBA" type book. The beginners book was far to basic (and poorly laid out) for my needs. I bought this book (excel 2007 power programming) and within a few hours of getting it, I was able to complete a few unfinished projects. This is a fantastic reference book, this is the first book EVER where I felt the included CD was worthwhile (in fact it has a ton of great examples from each chapter, and even some useful tools). It is clear enough that even a novice can use it, especially if the first few chapters are read beginning at page 1.

Walkenbach hasn't lost his touch. Belongs on the desk of anyone using VBA with Excel 2007 .

VBA programming in Excel defies easy documentation is the style that C++ or Pascal would lend itself. Given that background, this book does a reasonably good job of detailing what you can do with the language and some good how-to's.
What it and other works in this topic lack is a statement & syntax reference guide, assuming such thing could be created in a concise form, maybe not. The Windows help files aren't always satisfying either.
Overall a good product.
I blame Microsoft in large part for the difficulty in learning and applying this tehcnology.
I have to assume if one collected and used all the Walkenbach products they could become a very accomplished applications programmer.

I am only on page 250 of 1000 or so, but so far this book is excellent!! I had no VBA experience to speak of, this book is pefect for the beginner who learns fast. It is not a slow paced book, but it is very detailed and easy to follow. The author is clearly an crazy expert on VBA and an excellent writer.

I HIGHLY recommend this book. It came with a CD that is filled with VBA samples, but I have not found them anywhere near as interesting as the book itself.

Has generally clear explanations and useful examples. I also have his Excel 2000 version and recently bought his 2010 version. I have used with modification many of his included examples on the included CD in my own coding. I especially appreciated the solution he presented for the loss of support for the VBA file search procedures with Excel 2007. My employer is a late adopter so we miss a lot of the grief of early adopters, but I was going nuts trying to figure out why programs I had written before suddenly stopped working with Excel 2007. I searched the web and found various "solutions", but when I bought this book, I found a much simpler way to fix this. Now I include a version check in my utilities with switches to divert the program to different subs based on version if needed. I have not yet bought his offered special utilities disk, but that is just because of procrastination. I do this VBA programming on the side to perform tasks I need done at work. I am not a programmer by training and it is not in my job description. I am an environmental/geotechnical engineer and hydrogeologist. However, I have needed to automate many tasks from reducing lab data to feed into an access database, compare it to tables of environmental standards, import data into GIS systems, process data in various ways, manage our data flow for internal use and to respond to FOIA requests, automate comparisons or joins of spreadsheets, validate data, and a multitude of other tasks that others are trying to do manually. I am mostly self taught in VBA and Walkenbach has been my most helpful source.

The order came much earlier than anticipated. I immediately got hooked as soon as I started reading it. It is very well-laid out and the author presents the examples descriptively. He is even kind enough to give the readers a preview for the chapter--so that anyone who is already familiar/knowledgeable about the other topics can skip them. I just got my VBA feet soaked, and I could somehow relate already on what the author was trying to explain. Hopefully, they won't be that complicated as what the author has explained in the early chapters of the book.

I haven't finished going through the book but so far it looks good. It is helping me wrestle with understanding range objects/properties, which I have found hard to follow in the past. My major complaint with the Kindle version is the screen shot examples are so small they are UNREADABLE!!! So far, that has not been a serious impediment to understanding. Another draw back is not having the example CD. Happily there is a solution for that: See the review by J Omohundro, posted Feb 3, 2011 and titled "Kindle Version -- How to Get the CD".
