Volume 2 continues Volume 1. See my review for Volume 1 which author calls his foundation, and refers to Volume 2 as hands-free reporting. What I really benefit from is Jeff's teaching style which comes through boldly in his writing as well. Jeff is so relatable and his advice just makes sense. I really believe these books are not just for accountants, anyone wanting to learn and better utilize Excel will benefit. buy it, you won't be sorry, also Jeff provides excellent resources to help you practice what you learn, and to implement in the real world.

While Volume 1 focused more on keyboard shortcuts & some foundations, Volume 2 heavily focuses on real-life examples which utilizes hands-free format.

Although it is same VLookup & SUMIFs function that are being taught, the difference is how he manages to describe them.

I've read many excel-related books but I either forgot them once I am done with the book, or the formulas seemed too complex for me to remember.

But with easy-references and use of cell & table references of this book, I was able to memorize them easily and this saved a lot of hours off my work!

Everyone at work thinks that I'm using Macro to custom-program my work, but little did they know that I'm merely using standard formulas in all my worksheet.

Now when I try to learn from other excel books, it seems so-inefficient as the examples are rather complicated and thus hard to comprehend - I'm definitely spoiled with this books' teaching style!

I only wish that more 'accounting' related formulas are present in volume 3. (NPV, PMT, etc)

Can't wait for Vol.3 to come out!

I've read Excel University Volume 1 & 2 and they are the best Excel instruction I've seen for financial number crunchers. As a self proclaimed Excel "power-user" I was surprised about how much they taught me. These books are not "Excel for dummies" they're for professionals who are serious about becoming more efficient at their work. What I found especially helpful is that the author not only talks about Excel functionality, but gives practical examples of how to apply Excel features.

As with any instructional book the content is only valuable if its teaching you something new. While I was already aware of some Excel features discussed in the book, there was more than enough "best practice" tips and advanced functionality I was unaware of to make it worth while the read. So in sum I'd recommended this book to anyone outside of the elite 1% of Excel users.

Excel U books build solid skillsets for accountants. Experienced accountants will find it easy, but newer ones will grow. Vol 1 and 2 are good for junior/intermediate accountants who need to catch up to the boss. Chapters are separated into appropriate bite-sized challenges. Vol 1 and 2 build up small efficiencies and challenge the user to think about the formulae used within an accounting context. Disappointments would be no pivot tables nor macros, but they are expected in a future volume. Not every job will use every exercise, but the functions are introduced in an excellent accounting context.

You could just go ahead and call this book 'How to for Dummies'. If you want to learn Excel, this is the way to go. Excellent tutorials, samples, and the videos are crystal clear. You won't regret this purchase.
