No Worse Than Any of the Other "For Dummies" titles, January 14, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Excel for Windows 95 (Dummies 101 Series) (Paperback)
Like most of the books in the "For Dummies" series, Dummies 101, Excel is an excruciatingly simple step by step guide to using the program. Unfortunately, while the book does an excellent job of teaching the basic tasks of navigating the program and applying snazzy form-over-substance formatting, it fails to give the serious reader any thoughtful guidance on how to use the program to do any real useful work. If you want to create a spreadsheet to amortize a loan, calculate your car's gas mileage, or do any of the hundreds of other possibly useful tasks that you bought the fancy software to do, this book will not teach you how.
On the other hand, if you would like to print spreadsheets in multicolors with lots of fancy headings in various fonts and sizes, then this book is at least as informative as any of the others out there, albiet somewhat more pedantic.
