By tmoore@ccim.net (San Diego, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Excellence in Leadership: Reaching Goals with Prayer, Courage and Determination (Paperback)
There are hundreds of books om leadership. This book is based on a man who overcame death threats, political intrigues, cowardly followers and yet worked as a key player in a team. The results are still discussed more than 2,000 years later. White considers the challenges faced and mastered by Nehemiah of the Old Testament. This book contains practical lessons for today. If you are a person of influence, or hope to be one, you will find this book challenging and rewarding. It points out what you can do, and what you should let others do. It contains wisdom. What more can you expect from a book on leadership and courage?

By Michael Taylor "Michael Taylor" (Indian Trail NC) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Excellence in Leadership: Reaching Goals with Prayer, Courage and Determination (Paperback)
White has written an excellent book on leadership by using the biblical example of Nehemiah, whose construction of the walls of Jerusalem are chronicled in the Book of Nehemiah.Among the important points White covers include: 1. Prayer must never be a dialog - true prayer is initiated by God and represents our response to Him. Read, enjoy, and be encouraged to be a better leader!

Powerful Resource on Leadership Based on Nehemiah,
This review is from: Excellence in Leadership: Reaching Goals with Prayer, Courage and Determination (Paperback)
John White expounds upon the life and work of the Nehemiah and relates the leadership principles learned to leadership today. White shows the greatness of Nehemiah and the productivity of his leadership. He shows how Nehemiah's results were based on sincere devotion to prayer, Scripture and the holiness of God. Nehemiah also demonstrates considerable courage and wisdom in the face of severe opposition and danger. This is a book that is relevant for any leaders, especially leaders in churches.

Leaders will face many obstacles on their way to fulfilling the purpose God has for them. White's book addresses eight leadership principles based on how Nehemiah responded to the catastrophe of his beloved city - the City of David - in ruins at the hands of the Babylonians, and how we can learn excellence from him.
One of my favorite historical figures is Nehemiah, a Jew who God used to repair the walls of Jerusalem 140 years after the final sack of the ancient city by the armies of Babylon. The book of Nehemiah opens with a kinsman of Nehemiah's named Hanani visiting Nehemiah in a place called Susa in ancient Persia, where he served the king as cupbearer (describe). Hanani and some friends tell Nehemiah bad news - Jerusalem has been decimated, its walls destroyed, its gates burned and its inhabitants hopeless. The eight principles are: To be Excellent in Leadership, Be a Person of Prayer. (Nehemiah 1) To be Excellent in Leadership, Be a Person of Organization. (Nehemiah 2) To be Excellent in Leadership, Be a Person Who Works Hard - but does so by Example. (Nehemiah 3-4) To be Excellent in Leadership, Be a Person Who Knows People Will Oppose You From the Outside. (Nehemiah 4) To be Excellent in Leadership, Be a Person Who Knows People Will Oppose You From the Inside. (Nehemiah 5) To be Excellent in Leadership, Be a Person Who Anticipates Personal Attacks. (Nehemiah 6) To be Excellent in Leadership, Be a Person Who Seeks Renewal. (Nehemiah 8-9) To be Excellent in Leadership, Be a Person Who Endures. (Nehemiah 13) You will see how relevant God's principles of leadership are today as they were thousands of years ago! A great book, and highly recommended.
